ULM falls in series finale to Georgia State

ATLANTA, Ga. – The ULM Baseball team stranded 10 baserunners on Sunday afternoon as Georgia State handed the Warhawks a 6-1 defeat in the teams’ Sun Belt Conference series finale in Atlanta. THE BASICS Score: Georgia State 6, ULM 1 Location: GSU Baseball Complex / Atlanta, Ga. Teams: ULM (12-32, 6-15 SBC), Georgia State (16-26, 6-15 SBC) TURNING POINT -The Warhawks stranded 10 runners in the game on Sunday, including five runners in the first three innings combined. ULM loaded the bases with one out in the top of the first before a strikeout and popup ended the threat, and then stranded two runners in the top of the third frame. Overall, ULM left at least one runner on in six different innings. HOW IT HAPPENED -Georgia State took the lead in the bottom of the second inning via a one-out triple from Luke Leonard, who scored moments later on an RBI single by Payton Mann. Mann was involved in the hosts’ three-run fourth frame, collecting another RBI single to plate the first run of the inning before an RBI single by Brandon Gonzalez brought in a run and a ULM throwing error on the play plated a second run, and third of the inning. -The Warhawks’ lone run came in the top of the fifth inning when Cade Stone led off the frame with a single and later scored on Spencer Hemphill’s two-out double down the left field line. -Georgia State answered with a run in the bottom of the fifth when Justin Jones led off with a single before scoring o ...
