Search Continues For Boater After Deadly Vessel Collision Off Coast Of Catalina Island

CATALINA ISLAND (CBSLA.com) — The U.S. Coast Guard continues to search for a missing boater hours after a deadly vessel collision in the water off the coast of Santa Catalina Island. The crash between a boat and a dingy happened northeast of Casino Point near Descanso Bay after 1 a.m. Sunday. “We received a report from a good Samaritan reporting that a dingy with five people aboard collided with another vessel about a quarter-mile off Descanso Bay, Catalina,” Sondra-Kay Kneen of the Coast Guard told KNX 1070 NEWSRADIO. One person was killed and three others were injured. The Coast Guard says the injured boaters were taken by helicopter to Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center. Two of the boaters had minor injuries, while a third sustained a head injury. The Coast Guard says first responders were coordinating search efforts at Casino Point. The identity of those involved has not been released. This is a breaking news report. More information will be provided as it becomes available.
