THAILAND’S many Leicester City Football fans still believe that the team will win the Barclays Premier League title despite drawing 1-1 against Manchester United on Sunday. Leicester City have gained legions of fans in Thailand after the club was acquired by Thai billionaire Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha in 2010. Vichai, the founder and CEO of King Power, is a devout Buddhist who has monks brought in to bless the Football players. Roughly 1,000 fans attended a big-screen showing of the game at the Bangkok headquarters of King Power, but even the lucky Buddhist amulets that many wore were not enough to secure a priceless victory. Attendees were reportedly treated to free beer, fried rice, prawns and mussels. Retiree Naruepatra Dhanabhumi, who has followed Leicester since its Thai ownership, said, “I’m 100 percent sure the team is going to win in the end.” Akadet Inkome, a follower of Buddhist monk Phra Prommangkalachan, who has blessed talismans to bring luck to the team, said they “are very sacred, the talismans will bring victory to the team”.
