Australia’s peacock spider is one of the most unique creatures in the land down under. Although its existence has been known for almost 150 years, very little footage of this amazing little arachnid has ever been seen until now. The odd courtship display looks a little like a cross between a sailor flagging signals and Japanese Kabuki dance. Here’s what a male Maratus speciosus looks like doing its thing to attract a mate. This peacock spider hails from the coastal dunes near Perth in Western Australia. You Tube user Peacockspiderman says, “Hard to believe but there is no footage of this species yet in any wildlife documentary and although it has been known since 1874, it was not until I photographed and filmed it that the world took notice.” Now that we’ve seen it in action we can hardly believe our eyes, and all six or so that belongs to this curious little spider from down under!
