Tyler Chatwood pitches a weird one at Coors Field as Nolan Arenado, Trevor Story slam Rockies to sweep of Braves

The south side of the Rockies infield wore bright white spikes Sunday, in honor of Ken Griffey Jr., and knee-high black socks in support of their pitcher Tyler Chatwood. Plaid on plaid might have been more appropriate in a mixed-up oddity of a game at Coors Field. To say Chatwood was effectively wild would gloss over some extra-ordinary details. The Rockies’ right-hander threw a one-hitter, true. He also walked eight other batters in five innings. And none of them scored. That pitching disparity happened only 15 times before in baseball’s history. But there’s more. As Nolan Arenado and Trevor Story slammed home runs in the spirit of Griffey and Chatwood bewildered his way to his ninth win, the Rockies roundly routed the Atlanta Braves 7-2 in LoDo for a four-game series sweep. And for the first time since April 22, the Rockies (46-51) have a winning record at Coors Field. They are now 25-24 at home. A seven-game stand in Denver that nearly teetered toward disaster tipped back toward the Rockies. They went 5-2 against the Braves and Tampa Bay Rays before flying east to face the first-place Baltimore Orioles.
