The days left in the Baseball season are dwindling, as are the Pirates’ slim chances of resurrecting their postseason lives. Fourteen games remain. The Colorado Rockies’ memorable rise in September 2007 under Clint Hurdle began before this point, as they won 14 of their final 15 regular-season games en route to their first World Series berth. • The halcyon days of spring training — with the buzz of Doc Emrick’s Baseball broadcast debut — and of opening day are long forgotten as the sun sets on the Pirates’ 2016 regular season. There already is ample fodder for water-cooler conversation this winter, but there also is plenty still to investigate, for those who so choose, as September turns to October and the offseason. ...
