Apple's Activation Lock ties your Apple ID to your handset, meaning that if your device is factory reset, your Apple ID and password must be entered before the handset can be set up again and used. This is a great feature for preventing theft but if you ever have to send your iPhone off for repair or to be replaced, or if you just want to sell it, then you need to make sure you remove Find My iPhone (and by association Activation Lock) before you hand it over. Depending on the situation, there are a few ways of doing this. If your iPhone is still working… If you still have access to the iPhone and it is still working and connected to the internet, you can simply turn off the Find My iPhone service on your handset to remove Activation Lock. On the home screen, tap on the Settings icon. Tap your name at the top of the Settings menu. Scroll down and tap on iCloud . In the iCloud settings, tap Find My iPhone . The switch should be showing green, signifying that FMIP is still enabled. Tap the switch . You will be prompted for your Apple ID password . Enter this using the keyboard then tap Turn off . A note will show onscreen showing that the service is being turned off. When complete the switch will turn white.
