FCC chairman Ajit Pai has taken time off from ruining the internet to pick a very particular battle with Apple. He wants the phone maker to activate the FM radio that lies dormant inside iPhones, all in the name of public safety. "I hope [Apple] will reconsider its position, given the devastation wrought by Hurricanes Harvey, Irma, and Maria," Pai said in a statement today. The chairman frames it as a matter of public safety: When cell networks inevitably go down during a natural disaster -- regardless of precautions taken by networks -- FM radio is a good fallback for distributing public information.
