Bill O’Reilly tonight fired back against the “dishonest” “smear merchants” in response to the criticism he got for his commentary on the slaves who built the White House. O’Reilly yesterday fact-checked Michelle Obama ‘s speech and said that yes, the White House was built by slaves, but slaves were well-fed and had good lodgings. He did not justify or defend the slavery at all, but that was the impression some news outlets game. O’Reilly angrily declared, “That is a lie… That is a fact, not a justification, not a defense of slavery.” He called out celebrities on Twitter who he said were “buying in the defamation” and who he’s invited to come on his show. O’Reilly then brought on Geraldo Rivera and Eric Bolling to talk about how “smear publications” push false narratives “designed to diminish me and harm the Fox News Channel.” He indicated that Fox should be banding together to finally call out its critics.
