Mike Slack of Slack and Davis is one of the nation’s premier aviation law experts. So when there is a tragic aviation accident, like what occurred in Australia involving a PT6 engine earlier this week, Slack is one of the first people who gets called, whether by plaintiffs or the media. A former NASA engineer and licensed pilot, Slack said there are a number of PT6 engine variants used on the different King Air models, but they all share common design features. Slack notes that there are some common failure patterns that he has seen in PT6 engine failure cases. Besides the King Air, the PT6 engine is also used in other aircraft such as the Cessna Caravan. Slack & Davis is currently handling cases which involve PT6 engine failures on King Air aircraft and have also handled multiple cases involving PT6 engine failures the single engine Cessna Caravan.
