The NFL Draft has apparently turned into more of a chess match than anything. The 2017 NFL Draft set the record for most draft picks over a given year. So far, 37 picks have been traded – setting new all-time NFL draft record. The previous record for picks traded was 34. The Chicago Bears, originally holding pick No. 3, traded up one spot and sent another handful of picks to the San Francisco 49ers in order to land North Carolina Tar Heels quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Trubisky wasn’t the only quarterback that teams traded up for in Round 1. With the Buffalo Bills slated to pick at No. 10, the Kansas City Chiefs moved up a total of 17 spots. They drafted Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Finally, the Trubisky-Mahomes domino may have been the primary factor in the Houston Texans moving up to No. 12. They slid up and picked Clemson quarterback Deshaun Watson. A handful of teams also traded in and out of the first round to make a late-day splash.
