Jayon Brown and Conor McDermott were the last of five UCLA players selected in the NFL draft, but they can rest assured they were wanted. The Tennessee Titans traded up to acquire Brown in the fifth round on Saturday and the New England Patriots traded up to select McDermott in the sixth round. Brown, an undersized linebacker who led the Pac-12 with 119 tackles last season, was worth the Titans trading their fifth- and sixth-round picks to the Eagles in order to acquire him with the 11th pick in the fifth round. The Patriots traded their sixth- and seventh-round picks to the Dallas Cowboys for the 28th pick of the sixth round, where they selected UCLA’s three-year starter at left tackle. UCLA defensive end Takkarist McKinley, the 26th overall pick on Thursday by the Atlanta Falcons , was the Bruins’ fourth player in the last five years selected in the first round. Bruins cornerback Fabian Moreau and defensive tackle Eddie Vanderdoes were both third-round picks on Thursday, going to Washington and the Oakland Raiders, respectively. Brown and McDermott rounded out UCLA’s selections after a disappointing 4-8 season. Eight Bruins were selected in the 2016 NFL draft. Brown, an athletic linebacker good in coverage and a solid tackler with his 6-foot, 231-pound frame, could quickly find his way into Titans packages designed to defend the pass.
