iPhone X’s Rivals Might Need A Few Years To Finally Catch Up, Says Expert

Screenshot via Apple Apple is reportedly facing delays with the production of iPhone X due to complications with the phone’s TrueDepth facial recognition technology—but it could be a good thing for the company. According to famous Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo from KGI Securities , the iPhone X’s noteworthy TrueDepth camera’s user experience and functionality will take competitors up to two-and-a-half years to replicate. The technology is responsible for the Face ID , Animoji , and more. The statement, delivered by Kuo in an investors’ note on Monday, had been obtained by MacRumors . Previously, the analyst expected Apple’s competitors to take only one to two years to keep up with the company’s technology. Having observed the live demonstrations at Apple’s event, however, Kuo now has “full confidence” that rivals will need a little more time to match up to the TrueDepth’s quality. While the expectations set by Kuo and KGI Securities for the upcoming iPhone X have improved, the company has reviewed the phone’s 2017 shipping estimates—dropping the predicted count from 40 million units to between 30 and 35 million units. The possible decrease is not because of an expected lower demand, but concerns over the iPhone X’s production.
