Is the Wild Card in Baseball simply a way to "use" the fans, and give them a tease. Yeah, you keep fans interest in the playoffs with this "wild card" format, but how much do you really respect it? You give two extra teams one measly chance, one nine inning game, after cheering a team on for 162 games. Something is terribly wrong with this format. I think its one helluva charade by MLB. Like what's the point of playing 162 games? What's the point in cheering or paying attention to your team if its 20 games out of a playoff spot by August? I think they need to shorten the season dramatically, and make the playoff round the pinnacle of its season. You dont achieve that by one game playoffs, or best of 5 series. The entire season should be finished by the 3rd week in September. Regularly play afternoon playoff games, so the young children can watch them, and grow into fans. You'd think MLB would learn from the NHL's ridiculously long playoff season. The longer the gaps, the more people lose interest. It's impossible for any player to give it his 150% for 162 games. The season is way too long. Sports leagues need to adjust with the times. ...
