If you’re not familiar with what I’m talking about, that headline might be a bit confusing. I’m not referring to Apple TV, the little black rectangle that plugs into your TV and gives you access to watch your iTunes movies on the big screen plus access to thousands of apps on the App Store. No, instead I’m talking about an app made by Apple called “TV”. Got it? 😂 First introduced last Fall, the TV app is meant to be the centerpiece of the Apple TV experience. By default it’s the top left-most app on the Apple TV’s home screen. Since last Fall it’s also been the case that when you hit the TV-shaped button on the Apple TV’s Siri Remote, it takes you from wherever you are to the TV app. You can change this in settings. On my Apple TV, I have changed that setting so that it takes me to the Home screen instead, as was that button’s original purpose. So what is the purpose of the TV app? It’s meant to be a single stop for all of your TV watching. You might be watching Star Trek: Discovery via the CBS app, Marvel’s Inhumans via the ABC app, The Simpsons via the Fox app, etc. What a pain to have to go to each of those apps to see if a new episode of one of these shows is available. No one wants to wade through nine different user interfaces. So the TV app aggregates all of the shows you watch in one app. You can find shows in the TV app and add them to your watchlist, or if you start watching a show in say, the NBC app, that show will g ...
