About Last Night, in which we review some of the events from the previous day in the world of sports, and beyond … And now it’s time to honor those NFL coaches we’ve lost over the holidays … tributes, assemble! Look at this group — all fired. Oh, so sad. They started with so much promise … except for Jim Tomsula (the 49ers began their current coaching search in August). But Tomsula gave it a good effort, winning five games and gaining the trust and admiration of his players. Unfortunately his offensive playbook consisted of 17 punt formations and a diagram of the Heimlich Maneuver. Tomsula was fired about an hour after SF’s 19-16 OT win over the Rams on Sunday. But was the disappointing season his fault?
