LITTLE ROCK, Ark. — With the new years comes significant changes for those receiving assistance through the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program in Arkansas. State officials wanted to remind the public anyone between the ages of 18 and 49 years of age who is receiving food assistance through this program are required to hold a steady job. According to THV11 , the new law requires the recipient work at least 20 hours a week. However, some individuals could be exempt from the rule including those who are disabled, going to school, women who are pregnant, and those with dependents. The Department of Human Services said SNAP, formerly known as the Food Stamp Program, provides help to those who can’t afford to buy food. Money is put on an Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) card and then used by the household to buy eligible food items. More than 500,000 people in Arkansas are reportedly enrolled in the program.
