Two games. Two big performances. And two victories. Say hello to Steel-High senior forward Ayana Flowers , who put together back-to-back big games last week, helping the Rollers pick up some serious momentum with the stretch drive on the horizon. On Thursday, Flowers bucketed a team-high 15 points in a 46-38 nonleague win over previously undefeated Linden Hall . On Friday, Flowers poured in a career-high 23 points in the Rollers’ 54-32 victory over Milton Hershey in a key Mid-Penn Capital clash, as Steel-High knocked the Spartans down a peg in the division race — and won their second game in a row to improve to 5-5 overall in the process. It was a much-needed two-game winning streak for the Rollers, who previously lost Capital games to Trinity and West Perry . Flowers was one of our 10 nominees for PennLive’s girls’ Basketball Player of the Week, and after counting nearly 2,200 fan ballots, she was the No. 1 with 1,111 votes. East Pennsboro freshman Sunshine McCrae , who is making a name for herself in Mid-Penn and District 3 circles, was second with 654 votes. Recapping our 10 nominees and the final voting numbers Flowers is off to a solid start for Steel-High; in 10 games she’s averaging a team-best 10.5 points for coach Jeff Chisholm’s club, which is 2-3 in division games and lurking in the Capital division.
