Could Falcons Show Interest In These Day 1 NFL Combine Standouts?

Source: atlanta.cbslocal.com --- Saturday, February 27, 2016
Running backs, offensive linemen and special teamers took center stage in Indianapolis Friday at the 2016 NFL Combine. Before the football world shifts focus to Saturday and the quarterbacks, receivers and tight ends, let’s look at some interesting Falcons’ storylines from Day 1. [Editorial Note: I left out winners among the running backs — like Alabama’s Kenyan Drake — because the Falcons will not likely select a ball-carrier in this year’s draft with only five picks.] NC State offensive lineman Joe Thuney was a bright spot for the linemen Friday. He ran a 4.95-second 40-yard dash (second-best time), his broad jump was 110 inches (sixth among linemen — 9 feet-2 inches) , he finished the three-cone drill in 7.47-seconds (sixth place) and posted a 4.54-second 20-yard shuttle (sixth place). In addition to his times on the field, Thuney looked fundamentally sound and showed quickness and burst. His 28 reps in the bench press fit nicely with his 6-foot-5-inch, 304 pound frame. He played all across the offensive line for the Wolfpack, but projects as a guard in the NFL. 28 bench press reps for Joe Thuney at #NFLCombine ,tied for 11th among OL. He’s made himself some $ with that & weighing in at 300+ #PackPros — Ryan Tice (@RyanTice) February 25, 2016 CBS Sports hit him with a pre-combine seventh-round grade, but that might rise as the dust settles on Indy next week. Another interior lineman that could have piqued the Falcons’ interest ...
