There are a few draft analysts who think Alabama running back Derrick Henry will go in the first round in April’s draft, and Henry’s performance Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine gave some credence to those opinions. Henry, who measured 6 feet 3 and 247 pounds at his official combine weigh-in earlier this week, put on an impressive show. His vertical jump was measured at 37 inches, third-best among all running backs. He also had an excellent broad jump of 130 inches (10 feet, 10 inches). And he was clocked in 4.54 seconds in the 40. His straight-line speed was a question, and he answered that in resounding fashion for a 247-pounder. Only 10 backs at the combine ran under 4.5. One of those was Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott, generally considered the top back available. Elliott, who measured 6-0 and 225, was clocking in 4.47 seconds. Arkansas’ Alex Collins had a time of 4.59, which was mildly disappointing.
