NEWARK, N.J. — Many times in recent days, we’ve heard the Bruins employ one of the most nonsensical cliches in sports: “We control our own destiny.” This, of course, is an absurd notion — the suggestion that destiny can be controlled. If there is such a thing as destiny, it refers to an inevitable, pre-determined outcome. Of course, it may well turn out that the destiny of this Bruins team is to miss the playoffs for the second successive spring.
