When Calipari says go, Fox takes off

(UK Athletics Photo) By LARRY VAUGHT Kentucky fans finally got a chance to see what freshman point guard De’Aaron Fox can do on the Basketball court — and he did not disappoint during Friday night’s Blue-White Game. Fox had 31 points on 11-for-20 shooting from the field and 8-for-10 at the foul line, 12 rebounds, six assists, five steals and two blocked shots. That’s a stat-stuffer whether it is an intrasquad scrimmage or marquee matchup with a ranked opponent. “It was fun. We went out there, had fun. We competed. We had to play all 40 minutes, so guys got tired and you started seeing it towards the end,” said Fox. Fox has speed. Make it John Wall-like speed. “You saw the speed of De’Aaron Fox. One time he started walking. I said, ‘Go!’ Second and a half he shot a layup. What just happened?” Calipari said. Fox said he got the message quickly from Calipari like he does daily. “I kind of don’t run until he tells me to run. There was one possession I was walking it and he was like, ‘Go!’ And in two seconds, I dunked it. So I kind of wait until he tells me. It’s something I’m kind of learning to do, learning to use my speed a little bit more,” Fox said. “When I’m pushing the pace, the other team, defensively, they just run back to the paint and I’m getting guys open looks.
