On October 27 state Rep. Liz Malia (D-11th Suffolk) and state Rep. Jeff Sanchez honored players from the Boston Slammers girls Baseball team for winning the The Baseball for All tournament. The Boston Slammers is a collaboration with the Jamaica Plain Regan Youth League, a 47-year old independent youth Baseball and softball league that serves more than 800 local boys and girls ages 5 to 18. Most of the youth who participate in the league are from Jamaica Plain and Roxbury, with significant representation from the surrounding neighborhoods of Roslindale and Mission Hill. This collaboration is a key part of the Regan Youth League’s Girls Play Ball initiative which seeks to recruit and support more girls to play Baseball and softball. The Slammers were undefeated in their regular season tournaments, beating teams from Washington DC, Canada and Los Angeles. This summer, they won their championship game against the East Bay Oaks, 9-1 . The Baseball for All-Tournament is the largest girls Baseball tournament in US history, with 200 girls playing in three different age groups. The tournament organizer, Baseball for All, supports girls and women playing Baseball competitively through college. ...
