In order to keep the peace with residents who live near bars, restaurants or taverns, and continue to accommodate local businesses, the Shorewood Village Board voted at its regular meeting Tuesday to reduce the outdoor noise during business hours by requiring businesses to close all Windows and doors between the hours of 11 p.m. and 8 a.m. The ordinance once allowed Windows and doors to be open until closing time, which could be until 2 a.m., but residents complained of the noise on nights the establishments had live music or amplified sound. The board originally had the ordinance on the agenda to require doors and Windows shut from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. Sunday through Thursday, and from 11 p.m. to 8 a.m. Friday and Saturday, but after Skooter’s Roadhouse General Manager Terry Saltakis stood in front of the board to plead that the 10 p.m. time change would not allow his dinner guests dining music until 11 p.m., the board amended the ordinance to 11 p.m. for the entire week. Saltakis said the kitchen closes at 10 p.m., and he would like to offer dining music to his patrons as they sit on the patio and eat dinner. He said that Skooter’s Roadhouse does not have live music during the week, so the music would only be quiet music from small speakers on the patio.
