DETROIT -- The Detroit Tigers have signed Cuban infielder Leonard Laffita and right-handed pitcher Willy Paredes to minor-league contracts, a team official confirmed to MLive.com. The signings, first reported by Baseball America , took place last week and are not believed to have included invitations to spring training. Laffita, 24, played 23 games for Vaqueros Lunga of the Mexican League in 2015, hitting .280 with zero home runs, four RBIs and an OPS of .705. According to BA's Ben Badler, the Tigers signed him for $250,000. "He has been showcasing for more than a year, standing out for his speed, but he still is raw all-around," Badler writes . "He has good bat speed and hand-eye coordination, but he's a free-swinger whose plate discipline will have to improve. He also committed eight errors at shortstop and will almost certainly move to another position. He projects better in center field or possibly second base." Paredes, who turned 27 on Tuesday, is a former Arizona Diamondbacks prospect from the Dominican Republic. He's 15-11 with a 3.70 ERA and 1.401 WHIP in five minor-league seasons, most recently Triple-A Reno where he pitched in nine relief appearances. -- Download the  Detroit Tigers on MLive app  for  iPhone  and  Android . -- Follow MLive Sports on  Facebook ,  Twitter  and  Inst ...
