Hello fellow #SlackerMoms! Birthday parties can be a heck of a lot of work. Which is why I was thrilled when my kid said he didn’t want a big party this year. For his seventh birthday, in lieu of a party, he wanted to take a friend to an all-day outing to a ropes climbing and zip lining course. His dad and I were psyched! Less work than a party, cheaper than buying all the crap for the party, AND we could zipline ourselves. Slacker parent win! An hour before we were set to leave, my son said, “But you’re still going to make me a specially designed cake like you always do…. right?” Um, right. Yeah. That was my plan all along, kid. Not to order a brownie with a candle in it at dinner tonight while I sipped an aperitif after zip lining. Nope. I was totally planning to make you a special themed cake RIGHT NOW . “How about a nice ice cream cake? You can buy those at the store. You love ice cream,” I broached carefully. “No. I want one of your special cakes. And this year I want it to be about Baseball.”… More ...
