Blizzard Rumoured to be Developing a Warcraft version of Pokémon Go

Source: www.vrfocus.com --- Thursday, November 22, 2018
Up to now the closest Blizzard has come to developing anything virtual reality (VR) or augmented reality (AR) related was during GamesCom this year with an AR guided tour of its stand where guests could also win prizes. However, thanks to the popularity of videogames like Pokémon Go, the company is reportedly working on a Warcraft version. Mobile gaming is very popular among the developers at Blizzard Entertainment’s HQ reports Kotaku , with Pokémon Go a particular favourite – an orc statue in the campus just so happens to be a Pokémon Gym. So from there it seems like they decided that World of Warcraft would make for a great fit as an AR title, running around battling orcs and other fantasy creatures in your local park. Currently being created by an incubation team at the company, the title is in production thanks to lead designer Cory Stockton being a fan of Pokémon Go. While there are no images or an official title just yet for this Warcraft AR experience, it will expand upon the gameplay characteristics of Pokémon Go, with those that have played it saying there’s: ‘a lot more to it’, especially when it comes to single-player. Such is the AR gaming space as it is now, Warcraft would need to do much more than Pokémon Go to make a mark, even with its legions of loyal fans. Pokémon Go has managed to keep going thanks to its brand being massively popular the world over, yet it doesn’t offer the same gameplay variety as newer riva ...

ASUS brings the world’s thinnest gaming laptop to the UK

Source: www.kitguru.net --- Sunday, November 18, 2018
ASUS unveiled its ROG Zephyrus S GX531GM gaming laptop at GamesCom in August, laying claim to the title of “world’s thinnest gaming laptop”. Taking to London, the firm provided a hands-on with the device, showcasing its improved processor, display and dimensions. ASUS introduced it’s the Republic of Gamers (ROG) Zephyrus range in 2017, targeting the high-end gaming market with an Nvidia GTX 1080 Max-Q. While our resident laptop Guru Leo praised its “impressively thin and light” design, ASUS has managed to trim things back even further without sacrificing performance. UK product manager Neil Reid emphasised on the ultra-thin chassis of the Zephyrus S, scaled back from the 16.9-17.9mm of its predecessor to just 14.95-15.75mm with a Unibody lid. This makes the Zephyrus S the world’s thinnest gaming laptop to date, however the weight of the device is largely unaffected, seeing a slight decrease from 2.2kg to 2.1kg. The reduced size is particularly noticeable in the thinner bezels surrounding a crystal clear 15.6-inch FullHD display, bringing the Zephyrus line into 2018. Refresh rate has also been bolstered from 120Hz to a full 144Hz at 3ms response time. As you can see from the photo below, the AHVA panel allows for a wide range of viewing angles. The keyboard layout returns, with ASUS doubling up its touchpad as a NUM pad. The keys themselves are once again pulled to the front of the chassis, featuring a reduced travel distance fro ...

Until Dawn Dev Supermassive Is Working On “Several Unannounced PlayStation Exclusives”

Source: gamingbolt.com --- Tuesday, November 13, 2018
Developers of Until Dawn Supermassive Games announced at GamesCom this year that they’d be partnering with Bandai Namco to make The Dark Pictures , an anthology of horror titles, which, unlike the developer’s last few titles, wouldn’t be exclusives to the PS4. However, it seems like their days of making PlayStation exclusive titles aren’t over yet. While speaking with Russian website 4PDA (via Reddit ), Supermassive’s Pete Samuels confirmed that there are “several” PlayStation exclusives currently in development at the studio. “Well, the relationship with Sony is still excellent,” he said. “We are working on several unannounced PS exclusives. But we can’t talk about them right now.” After Until Dawn , Supermassive made a few more PS4 exclusive titles, such as the VR game The Inpatient , and the PlayLink title Hidden Agenda , neither of which was really too successful. The PlayStation exclusives they have in development could be something along those lines, or perhaps a big budget AAA release similar to Until Dawn- maybe even for the PS5. We don’t know either way, but hopefully, something will be announced soon. Until then, Man of Medan , the first game in The Dark Pictures anthology, is out next year for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. ...

Can’t Drive This, the 4D arcade machine

Source: www.raspberrypi.org --- Tuesday, November 06, 2018
A Raspberry Pi–powered arcade display with hidden interactive controls won over the crowds at GamesCom. Rosie Hattersley and Rob Zwetsloot got the inside scoop. Pixel Maniacs is a Nuremberg-based games maker that started out making mobile apps. These days it specialises in games for PC, Xbox One, PlayStation, and Nintendo Switch. You Can’t Drive is its first foray into gaming with a Raspberry Pi. If you’re going to add a little something extra to wow the crowd at the GamesCom video games trade fair, a Raspberry Pi is a surefire way of getting you noticed. And that’s the way Pixel Maniacs went about it. The Nuremberg-based games developer retrofitted an arcade machine with a Raspberry Pi to showcase its intentionally silly Can’t Drive This precarious driving game at GamesCom . This two-player co-operative game involves one player building the track while the other drives along it. Complete with wrecking balls, explosions, an inconvenient number of walls, and the jeopardy of having to construct your road as you negotiate your way, at speed, across an ocean to the relative safety of the next lump of land, Can’t Drive This is a fast‑paced racing game. Splash action Pixel Maniacs then took things up a notch by providing interactive elements, building a mock 4D arcade game (so-named because they feature interactive elements such as motion cabinets). The fourth dimension, in this case, saw the inclusion of a water spray, fan, and conso ...

Man of Medan Halloween Trailer Warns of Repercussions

Source: gamingbolt.com --- Thursday, November 01, 2018
One of the more interesting announcements at this year’s GamesCom was The Dark Pictures Anthology , a series of horror games from Supermassive Games. Published by Bandai Namco Entertainment, the first title in this series is Man of Medan where players discover a cursed ship at sea. Just like the developer’s previous title Until Dawn , choices have repercussions. The story sees five individuals venturing out into the ocean to find treasure. Soon enough they come across a ghost ship which is, unsurprisingly, full of spooky things. Each character will be playable and branching story paths will lead to multiple endings. The newest trailer indicates that there’s no right or wrong since everyone has a different moral compass. But if this is anything like Until Dawn , then your choices will determine who lives and who dies. Who deserves either honour? We’ll find out for ourselves when the game arrives in 2019 for Xbox One, PS4 and PC. Of course, we’re also interested in the mystery behind the ship so there could be a solid story regardless of who survives. ...
