Buy Joe Everything Musgrove

Source: razzball.com --- Saturday, May 26, 2018
As Gerrit Cole's weekly attempts to break the strikeouts per game record continue in Houston, the Baseball world is left to wonder, "Wait what exactly did Pittsburgh get for trading this dude again?" Well, Bucs Nation got to see their return on full display Friday night, Joe Musgrove was dominant in his Pirates debut going seven scoreless innings allowing just five hits striking out seven and even added a hit and scored a run for his first win with his new team. Joe only needed 67 pitches to get through seven, throwing 50 of those for strikes and retired 80% of the hitters he faced on three pitches or less. He's also the first pitcher to go seven innings with under 70 pitches in 10 years or something zzz. Enough with the stats, nerd! Tell me about the KAYS! Sure, Musgrove did not look spectacular in his rehab stint, and sure, the Cardinals offense is not the most menacing assignment, but the 25 year old RHP is formerly highly touted prospect! He had seven wins in 15 starts (109.1 innings) in 2017, but it's the 98/28 K/BB rate that has got me doing the happy dance. ThasalottaKs! He'll get a tougher assignment versus the Cubs next week, but could be worth a grab for that sweet, sweet upside alone. Remember, the Pirates traded Gerrit Cole for this kid! What do they know that we don't!? I'd take a flier on Joe Musgrove anywhere I needed starting pitching help. I can see him becoming a reliable streaming option for me throughout the ...

Dynasty Target: Jose Suarez

Source: www.faketeams.com --- Saturday, May 26, 2018
Angels southpaw Jose Suarez has rapidly jumped through the ranks to become an interesting option in fantasy Baseball dynasty leagues. Dynasty owners are always looking for the next best thing. The player that fell through the cracks or has emerged out of nowhere that they can scoop up before the rest of their league gets wise. I am here to discuss with you one of those players. Meet Jose Suarez, a 20-year-old southpaw for the Los Angeles Angels . Suarez came into 2018 ticketed for High-A with a major league ETA of 2020, after spending last season split between Rookie Ball and Low-A. He has not garnered a lot of recognition on prospects lists (#11 according to MLB) or hype due to the fact that he does not meet the prototypical standards that scouts looks for in a pitcher. For instance, Suarez is just 5’10’’ and lacks a dominating fastball which sits in the 89-93 range. However, what the lefty lacks in velocity he makes up for in pin point control and sound, repeatable mechanics. In 2017 Suarez showed the ability to rack up strikeouts due to his phenomenal change-up and ability to keep hitters off-balance. Most scouts assumed that his strikeouts would decline when promoted to the higher levels in the minor leagues, pegging him as a soft throwing ground ball lefty who pitches to contact. That has not been the case in 2018. The “crafty” southpaw dominated High-A to begin the year, striking out 18 batters in just nine innings. Suarez ...

Utah Baseball Gets Year of NCAA Probation for Violations

Source: https://ift.tt/1jQkhVs --- Saturday, May 26, 2018
AthleticBusiness.com has partnered with LexisNexis to bring you this content. Copyright 2018 The Salt Lake Tribune All Rights Reserved The Salt Lake Tribune The NCAA has put the University of Utah Baseball program on probation for one year after an eight-month investigation of self-reported rule violations by the university. The report states, according to a Division I Committee on Infractions panel, that Utah Baseball coach Bill Kinneberg, "did not promote an atmosphere of compliance when he instructed his then-director of Baseball operations to impermissibly perform coaching duties." Along with the year of probation, the panel agreed with the Utes' self-imposed penalties of suspending Kinneberg for the first 25 percent of this season, a 14-game stretch; a reduction in athletically-related activity from 20 hours per week to 18 hours per week; and a $5,000 fine The report stated that Kinneberg asked his former director of Baseball operations to participate in on-field coaching activities, working with catchers, throwing batting practice and hitting Baseball for fielding drills. That, the report explains, caused Utah to exceed the allowable number of Baseball coaches. Kinneberg knew his former director of operations could not be involved in on-field coaching activities and "specifically warned his staff to make sure that the former director was not performing coaching activity if any administrative staff came by practice." Kinneb ...

Big Ten Baseball Tournament: Michigan bounced in tournament by Ohio State

Source: www.maizenbrew.com --- Saturday, May 26, 2018
The Wolverines suffered their second loss in as many days on Friday afternoon. The No. 3 Michigan Wolverines were bounced from the Big Ten Tournament after suffering a 5-3 defeat at the hands of No. 7 Ohio State Friday afternoon. The loss came a day after the Wolverines endured their first loss in the double-elimination tournament when they were walked-off by No. 2 Purdue. The Buckeyes drew first blood in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of Tyler Cowles’ RBI double. Noah McGowan chimed in with a run-scoring single to extend their lead to 2-0. Michigan cut Ohio State’s lead in half in the fifth inning via Jonathan Engelmann’s sacrifice fly that scored Harrison Salter. The Wolverines trailed 2-1. The Buckeyes responded in a big way in the sixth after a Bo Cooley solo shot to right field. His first of the year made it 3-1. Kobbie Foppe poked an RBI single to center field that extended the lead to 4-1 and Cowles followed with his second RBI of the game and 48th of the season to push it to 5-1. Michigan rallied the next half-inning after Brock Keener muscled a fastball into center field that scored two. They were unable to add on, but cut Ohio State’s lead to 5-3. The Wolverines were silenced in the final two innings as the Buckeyes held on for a 5-3 victory. The Buckeyes right-handed starter Adam Niemeyer held the Michigan offense to just one run over five innings, striking out four and walking one. Erik Bakich and Team 152 w ...

FanPost Friday: Interleague play is back!

Source: www.thegoodphight.com --- Friday, May 25, 2018
With interleague play resuming this weekend in a big series against Toronto, what are your thoughts on it? The scourge of Baseball is back again in Philadelphia. I’m not talking about the designated hitter (although that is a close second) as the thing that is attempting to ruin our precious game. I’m talking about the hare-brained idea that Allan Selig came up with many years ago, the dreaded interleague play. Yes, the Phillies have already partcipated this year, sweeping the Tampa Bay Rays back in April, but this weekend’s tilt against the visiting Toronto Blue Jays has a little more juice to it. With the Phillies only a 1 ⁄ 2 game back of the Atlanta Braves , even this early in the season, we as fans are looking for a series win to keep the pressure on. Could we even gasp take over first place by Sunday evening?!?!?! It remains to be seen, but that’s not why we’re here. I’m a Baseball purist. I hate the DH, but even more than that, I despise interleague play. I believe in the sanctity of the World Series , where two teams that have never had the chance to play each other during the season meet to determine a champion. When Selig forced interleague play upon the fans, he was doing so after the strike in the hopes that seeing teams from the other league would draw more people to the ballpark. It worked at the start, but now, not so much . I know it needs to exist because of how Baseball has set itself up (don’t even get me star ...

Calif. baseball team honors cancer-stricken teammate at senior day

Source: usatodayhss.com --- Friday, May 25, 2018
A San Diego community has rallied around a two-sport athlete since he was diagnosed with brain cancer after his freshman year of high school. Last week, Cathedral Catholic took their support for senior Brycen Newman two steps further; they retired his number and allowed him to play catcher and receive a live pitch. During Cathedral’s Senior Day festivities last week, head coach Gary Remiker announced that the school was retiring Brycen’s No. 3 jersey along with commissioning an artist to paint a mural in Cathedral’s home dugout of Brycen. As the Del Mar Times reported, Newman was diagnosed with the rare brain cancer medulloblastoma, in 2015. Prior to the diagnosis, he was a two-sport athlete at Cathedral, playing football and Baseball. While his competitive playing days were over, Remiker and football coach Sean Doyle ensured that Brycen was always a part of their teams. Over the last several years, he has become an inspirational figure at the school. With a “Battle for Brycen” Facebook page keeping people updated on Newman’s progress, those in the community have raised over $10,000 to support brain cancer research. The most priceless moment, surely, had to be when Remiker put Newman in the game to receive the first live pitch of the May 17 game against San Diego’s St. Augustine. A former catcher, Newman caught the perfect pitch from his longtime friend, Nick Nastrini. Today is Senior day for the Class of 2018. Brycen Newman cau ...

Big Ten Baseball Tournament: Michigan walked-off by Purdue in second round

Source: www.maizenbrew.com --- Friday, May 25, 2018
The Wolverines Omaha hopes took a hit Thursday. Just a little more than 24 hours after a walk-off victory versus No. 6 Iowa, the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines were walked-off by the No. 2 Purdue Boilermakers in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday. Purdue̢۪s Evan Warden delivered the game-winning single in the ninth inning off of Michigan lefty closer William Tribucher. Purdue got on the board in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of Jacson McGowan̢۪s two-out RBI single. In the fourth, Evan Kennedy̢۪s run-scoring triple to straightaway center field scored Ben Nisle from first, pushing the Boilermakers̢۪ lead to 2-0. Alec Olund brought home Kennedy with an RBI-groundout moments later to extend the lead to 3-0. The Michigan offense answered in the top of the sixth, after two singles and a walk chased Purdue lefty Gareth Stroh. Stroh stymied the Michigan offense over 5.2 scoreless innings, but was removed in the sixth after issuing hits and a free pass. He walked one and punched out five before turning the ball over to right-handed reliever Bo Hofstra. Against Hofstra, freshman outfielder Jordan Nwogu struck out with the bases loaded and two outs, but the ball advanced to the backstop, plating the Wolverines̢۪ first run of the game. Brock Keener followed with a two-run single that knotted the score at 3-3. The Boilermakers retook the lead in the seventh after McGowan̢۪s second RBI of the night scored Skyler ...

MLB Betting Analysis 5/25/2018

Source: www.bangthebook.com --- Friday, May 25, 2018
A full slate of games in Major League Baseball for today, with the Cubs having the traditional early game and everybody else doing battle under the lights. San Francisco at Cubs: The Cubs are -205 with Holland and Hendricks getting the start and while the pitchers have allowed close to the same number of runs, I have the Cubs -190, as they’ve had a tendency to hit lefties well in the early going of the seasom. St. Louis at Pittsburgh: The Pirates are -120 in this one, where I have Musgrove -143 over Gant, so another pass right out of the gate. Washington at Miami: The Marlins put their perfect 0-10 record with Urena on the mound on the line tonight, as Washington and Scherzer are -255 and I made this one Nats-270, so another pass. Mets at Milwaukee: The Mets are up to -125 with Syndergaard and Guerra the starters and I have New York -109, so another easy pass. Cincinnati at Colorado: After a solid start to the season, Romano has been roughed up a little bit his last two starts, which is one reason Gray and the Rockies are -185 in this one. Gray has been nothing special for the Rockies and the Reds are actually outscoring Colorado this season, so I’ll have to grab Cincinnati +170 in this one. San Diego at Dodgers: Clayton Richard has put together several decent starts in a row and the Dodgers haven’t fared all that great against LHP this season, scoring 2 or fewer runs in 8 of their 17 games. The Dodgers are -200 and I have it qu ...

USC eliminated from SEC Tournament with loss to LSU

Source: www.coladaily.com --- Friday, May 25, 2018
LSU scored three runs in the top of the 12th inning to defeat the University of South Carolina Baseball team, 6-4, in game 10 of the 2018 SEC Baseball Tournament Thursday afternoon  at Hoover Met Stadium. The Gamecocks are eliminated from the tournament after playing in a 4:17 instant classic. USC lost to Arkansas, 13-8, Wednesday. After a rain delay for the third straight day and an extra-inning contest before it, the Gamecocks and Tigers started two hours late, but it was worth the wait. LSU scored two runs in the top of the second as Zach Watson brought in Bryce Jordan on an infield single and Hal Hughes scored on a balk. Carolina clawed for single runs in the fourth and sixth innings. In the fourth, Jonah Bride was hit by a pitch and went to third on Justin Row’s double. Carolina loaded the bases as LT Tolbert was hit by a pitch. Hunter Taylor brought in the Gamecocks’ first run on a sacrifice fly to left. Then in the sixth, Row connected on his sixth home run of the year, a solo shot to left field. LSU took a 3-2 lead in the eighth. Antoine Duplantis looked to be the third out at home plate after a fly ball to right, but video review overturned the call, giving Hunter Feduccia a sacrifice fly. Carolina tied the game in the bottom of the ninth. Tolbert tripled over Watson’s head in center. Jacob Olson then singled up the middle to score Tolbert. NEXT South Carolina will turn its attention to the NCAA Tournament. The selectio ...
