Bills’ Mudge puts milking goats aside to pursue NFL dream

Source: wnct.com --- Wednesday, August 30, 2017
ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (AP) — Jordan Mudge isn’t sure what he would be doing had the Buffalo Bills not called out of the blue in March to invite the offensive lineman in for a tryout. Maybe he’d be playing a fifth season in some arena league. Perhaps Mudge would be back working a side job in construction to help make ends meet for his wife and three girls. More than likely, you’d find him milking goats on his farm in Arizona. Much to Mudge’s surprise, he’s doing none of the above. The 28-year-old rookie has instead made it through his first NFL training camp still in contention to win a roster spot or, at the very least, land on the Bills practice squad. The last chance to prove himself comes in Buffalo’s preseason finale against Detroit on Thursday, two days before teams make their final cuts. “I didn’t even think this opportunity was ever going to come,” Mudge said. “Seeing guys come and go even through (spring) and everything, shoot, like I was supposed to be the first one to go,” he added. “I was only the ‘brought in for a workout’ guy.” He’s still standing and considered somewhat of a curiosity because of his age. Since 1988, only 55 players have made their NFL debuts at 28 or older , according to Pro Football Reference. “Well, what else was I going to do? I love football. I love it. I love it,” he said. “My wife always laughs because she’s like, ‘You’re not built to do a 9 to 5.'” The 6-foot-4, 300-pound player also stands out ...

Bonsignore: Hey Aaron Donald, the Rams aren’t budging, it’s time to get back to work

Source: www.pe.com --- Wednesday, August 30, 2017
Aaron Donald deserves to be the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. So let’s just get that out of the way at the very top, lest anyone thinks sides are being taken in a contract holdout that has cost Donald all of training camp and preseason. And if he doesn’t report in the next day or so, it likely will mean sitting out at least the Rams’ season opener Sept. 10 against the Indianapolis Colts. Repeat: Aaron Donald deserves to be the highest-paid defensive player in the NFL. Related Articles FONTANA: Ultralight plane crashes off Interstate 15 RIVERSIDE: Hundreds get help with holiday meal Have we cleared that up? Good. Let’s make something else clear: It’s time for Donald to end his contract holdout and get back to Los Angeles. Preferably by Friday. But absolutely in time for Donald to be available when the Rams open the season at the Coliseum. He’s taken his stand far enough by holding out. Made his point loud and clear. Up until now, we’ve all just sort of stood off to the side and nodded in agreement. Of course Donald needs to be compensated as one of the best players in the NFL. And if it means him sitting out some voluntary offseason practices and skipping the grind of training camp and not suiting up for some meaningless preseason games nobody pays much attention to, so be it. Nothing was being lost, tangibly, other than time and preparation. If it meant the Rams standing up and taking notice and ultimately doing righ ...

NFL Rumors: Johnny Manziel Works Out With CFL’s Tiger-Cats, Who Have Interest In QB

Source: nesn.com --- Wednesday, August 30, 2017
Johnny Manziel hasn’t had any luck finding a job in the United States, and he could be headed north. The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner and former Cleveland Browns quarterback was one of the biggest draft busts in recent memory, as he played just 15 games over two years in the NFL and was released after the 2015 season. But he might be getting a second chance after working out for the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats last week, TSN reported Wednesday. TSN reported the team saw “too many red flags,” but ProFootballTalk’s Mike Florio heard very differently . “Per a source with knowledge of the situation, the Tiger-Cats remain extremely interested in Manziel, and the team could still sign him,” Florio wrote Wednesday. “There’s much more to the story, which may or may not come out. For now, the fact is that the Tiger-Cats have a very positive attitude toward Manziel, and new coach June Jones and others in the organization feel very strongly about signing him to a contract.” The Ticats already dealt with a controversy this week when they hired and fired former Baylor coach Art Briles, who was let go by the university after rampant sexual assault allegations against the football team, in the span of a few hours Monday. Should they sign Manziel, they likely can expect a similar reaction from fans and media. Thumbnail photo via Troy Taormina/USA TODAY Sports Images Filed under: NFL , Sam Galanis , Top Stories ...

The Lions Invest in Stafford

Source: www.unpackinit.com --- Wednesday, August 30, 2017
The Detroit Lions quarterback, Matthew Stafford, was the first overall selection in the 2009 NFL Draft. Since then, he’s made the Pro Bowl and led the Lions to the playoffs three times. Although he’s not the best quarterback in the league, Stafford has provided consistency and talent at a position the Lions weren’t used to having success, and just this week was given a contract extension worth $135 million over five years. Earning around $27 million a year, Stafford has become the highest-paid player in NFL history! The news has created quite a stir because not every fan or media member places his value at such a high price – especially since he’s never won a playoff game and isn’t considered an elite QB by most. However, I tend to agree with the notion that the Lions are investing in “their guy,” and having a QB your team can trust is crucial. Of course, having Tom Brady would be great, but having Stafford beats trying to find another competent QB…just ask the Browns or Jets. The reality is, teams must invest in the most valuable position on a football team, and end up having to pay what the market determines (based on the salary cap and comparable deals). If a franchise like the Lions understands the significance of investing in what’s most valuable for a football team, think how critical this principle is in our own lives. Simply put, we invest our time, efforts, gifts, and money in what we find valuable. So what do we consid ...

Kelechi Osemele tossing a Cowboys rusher like a rag doll is the best of this week's most disrespectful blocks

Source: www.sbnation.com --- Wednesday, August 30, 2017
And that’s just one of the most disrespectful blocks from the third week of the NFL preseason. Retired NFL lineman Geoff Schwartz runs through the list. Another installment of Disrespectful Block of the Week for preseason Week 3 is here! I can’t thank y’all enough for sending me or posting clips during the preseason. Without the All 22, it’s hard to catch things. So thanks again! We will probably have a Raiders lineman on this reel every single week. They are nasty. They love to finish blocks. When Kelechi Osemele got a mega deal from the Raiders, it was for blocks like this. These blocks, where you physically reduce a defender, it crushes their will. On this play, notice KO has excellent hand placement and strike. The defensive tackle goes for a rip and KO shuts that down. He uses his momentum against him and chucks him straight to the ground like a rag doll. The BEST part is the “I own you” stare down at the end. Next up, one of the best to ever do it, Joe Thomas. The Bucs defensive end foolishly rushes straight into Joe, who absorbs the rush easily. Noah Spence goes to jump, and Joe tosses him down like he’s playing against a high schooler. Bent him over in half! Then of course, the casual facemask readjust like nothing cool just happened. Head down to New Orleans next. Here, I’ll introduce you to the “full slab.” When offensive lineman target defense lineman in pass pro, we aim the for ribs. The head is a no no, and if you h ...

NFL 2017: Titans, Mariota eager to push aside Texans, Colts

Source: wnct.com --- Wednesday, August 30, 2017
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Tennessee Titans might be the AFC South’s most optimistic team thanks to quarterback Marcus Mariota. Yes, Houston coach Bill O’Brien has picked Tom Savage as his starter with the Texans looking for a third straight division title, and Indianapolis has the always dangerous Andrew Luck — maybe. The Colts are running out of time to activate Luck and his surgically repaired shoulder off the physically unable to perform list. Jacksonville’s gone back to Blake Bortles for lack of a better option after benching him this preseason. Then there’s Mariota, 2015’s No. 2 pick overall who had the Titans in control and chasing their first AFC South title since 2008 until breaking his right leg Dec. 24 in a loss at Jacksonville . Now fully recovered, Mariota provides a big confidence boost for a team trying to follow a 9-7 record by knocking off the Texans and Colts in the division they’ve taken turns dominating. “We have a great one in Marcus,” Titans Pro Bowl linebacker Brian Orakpo said. “We’re going to let him lead the way.” Tennessee general manager Jon Robinson, who couldn’t fix the entire roster his first offseason, revamped the wide receiving corps and secondary in the latest overhaul. Now it’s up to coach Mike Mularkey to help a young roster take the next step after a six-win improvement last season. Warface Goes To Chernobyl Later This Year

Source: www.co-optimus.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017
The latest news out of last week's GamesCom is related to Warface , the F2P co-op shooter from Crytek Studios.  Per their announcement last Thursday, the next batch of free content will take players all the way to Chernobyl to face down all new enemies.   Specifically, they're headed to Pripyat, easily the most well known location in the exclusion zone.  Due out later this year, the large-scale mission being added is said to be the most ambitious to date in terms of the game's story and graphics.  To ensure they stayed true to their terrifying inspiration, the devs even took multiple trips to the area to see it in person and presumably feel the effects of minor radiation poisoning. Of course, Pripyat itself is a terrifying place to be in general, but Crytek is amplifying that terror by introducing brand new enemies and bosses with their own combat styles.  It'll hopefully be a good change of pace for those that have conquered all (or most) of what the game has currently laid out for them. Source: Cowboys RB Ezekiel Elliott's appeal hearing will stretch into Wednesday

Source: sportsday.dallasnews.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017
FRISCO -- Ezekiel Elliott's appeal hearing to challenge his six-game suspension by the NFL isn't done yet. The Cowboys running back began his fight Tuesday in New York, but the hearing will spill over into Wednesday, a source confirmed. The hearing, which was held at an undisclosed location so the media couldn't stake out the league's Park Avenue headquarters, includes witness testimony. Arbitrator Harold Henderson, a former long-time NFL employee, is making the decision whether to uphold, overturn or reduce the punishment issued by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell. The league announced the suspension on Aug. 11 after a year-long investigation was reviewed by four independent advisers to Goodell. Elliott, his representatives and the NFL Players Association filed for notice of appeal on Aug. 15. The carryover into a second day pushes the wait for Henderson's decision ever closer to Dallas' season opener Sept. 10 against the New York Giants. Final roster cuts are made Saturday, so it's possible the Cowboys will have to hold an active roster spot for Elliott and cut another player. If Elliott's suspension is upheld, he'll be moved to the reserve/suspended list. If there's no ruling, the Cowboys could begin game prep and factor in the chance Elliott could play. Henderson doesn't have to issue his written ruling by any deadline after the hearing is completed other than "as soon as practicable," according to the collective bargaining ag ...

Everything You Need To Know About The Last Three Days Of NFL Trade Action

Source: www.inquisitr.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017
Over the last three days, the NFL has seen a flurry of trades, with six different ones taking place. These trades are very surprising given that the NFL has the least amount of trading out of any of the major North American sports. In comparison to the other sports, the NFL’s trade deadline is usually barren , with most trading taking place just before or during the draft. On Sunday, the New York Jets made the first trade with ESPN’s Adam Schefter reporting that they sent cornerback Dexter McDougle to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for safety Terrance Brooks. The Jets made the move as they are in need of depth at safety since backup Rontez Miles has been dealing with an eye laceration and Doug Middleton was waived/injured with a torn pectoral muscle. Apple Wins 2017 Technical/Engineering Emmy for Siri Integration on Apple TV

Source: www.macrumors.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017
The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences today announced the recipients of the 69th annual Technology & Engineering Emmy Awards, with Apple winning an award in the "Contextual Voice Navigation for Discovering and Interacting with TV Content" category. Apple received the award for the Siri voice integration built into the fourth-generation Apple TV, which allows users to search for content using voice-based commands. Other winners in the same category include Comcast, Universal Electronics (UEI), and Nuance Dragon TV. Siri has been available on Apple TV since 2015, which is when the fourth-generation set-top box with tvOS became available for purchase. Siri has a range of functions on the device, ranging from TV show/movie/actor/topic search capabilities to features like a vocal rewind option that allows users to do things like ask "What did she say?" to jump back 15 seconds and temporarily turn on subtitles. Siri can open apps and games, respond to typical commands for information about sports scores, movie times, weather, and more, and Siri can answer questions about movies and TV shows. "Who directed this movie?" and "Who stars in this movie?" are just a couple of examples of the kinds of queries Siri can respond to. Siri can even answer complex topic-based requests, like "Find comedies from the 80s starring Chevy Chase" or "Find movies for kids from the 90s." Award recipients will be honored at the Technology & En ...

Apple definitely hasn’t given up on under-screen fingerprint sensors

The iPhone 8 is going to have plenty of novel features compared to previous iPhones, although most of them are already available on competing devices. Yes, the 3D facial recognition feature is going to be a lot more sophisticated than anything found on an Android device, and a lot more secure, but it’s not an entirely unique feature for the iPhone. However, the iPhone 8 was supposed to offer users a feature not available on any other device aside from prototypes: a fingerprint sensor under the display. ReCore: Definitive Edition, ¿ha valido la pena esperar un año por esto?

Source: www.vidaextra.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017

The market keeps bearing

Source: andonethingmore.blogspot.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017
Of course Matthew Stafford is not the greatest quarterback in NFL history. That's just silly. He is, however, the RICHEST quarterback (or player, period) in NFL history. At least for now. This upon the news, reported here by my former colleague Michael Rothstein, that Stafford has signed a deal that will keep him in Detroit for the next five years and pay him vast sums of American dollars. Under his, he'll make $27 million a year, and his deal will top out at a grand total of $135 million. I know what you're saying now. You're saying, "But ... but he's Matthew Stafford! What's he done to earn that kind of jack?" Allow me to tell you. Allow me to say that Stafford's gargantuan deal is simply the free market at work, and nothing more mysterious than that. He's the highest paid player in NFL history -- at least for now -- because the market value of quarterbacks in the NFL has never been higher. If quarterbacks have always been critical to a team's success, they're more so now, because stylistically it's a quarterback-driven league in a way it's never been before. You get a top-shelf quarterback now, you pay him whatever dollars necessary to hang onto him. Just ask anyone who doesn't have a top-shelf quarterback. And so the Lions opened the vault for Stafford, because he already holds every career passing record the team has, and because he's been the quarterback for a team that's made the playoffs three times in the last five years ...

NFL making $40 million available for medical research

Source: www.sltrib.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017
New York • A year after the NFL pledged $100 million in support of independent medical research and engineering advancements, a huge chunk of that soon will be awarded to such research, primarily dedicated to neuroscience. A Scientific Advisory Board assembled by the NFL is set to launch its program to solicit and evaluate research proposals for funding. The board, comprised of independent experts, doctors, scientists and clinicians, and chaired by retired U.S. Army General Peter Chiarelli, will provide direction for the $40 million allocated under the league’s initiative. “Prevention should always be a focus,” Chiarelli says. “Nevertheless, the development of biologically based diagnostics is critical for return-to-play decisions for the NFL, and return to combat/training for the armed forces. Imagine if you had a handheld analyzer that with a single drop could determine whether a player or a soldier had a concussion — and determine the severity of that injury.” The NFL has an ongoing affiliation with the armed forces, and in April partnered with the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command on a three-year venture to collaborate on head health research and development. As always in this era of CTE concerns, any sports-oriented medical studies must be all-encompassing. Developing improved tools for research and design is front and center, as the league’s scientific advisory board is seeking to be, with significant financi ...

Cowboys and former SEC star reveals why he idolized Tim Tebow

Source: www.thewildcard.com --- Tuesday, August 29, 2017
Say what you will about the some of the more dubious characters on the Dallas Cowboys, but quarterback Dak Prescott has been nothing short of a class act in the NFL. And some recent revelations on “The Dan Patrick Show” may shed some light on his personality. “When I was young, I was a huge Tim Tebow fan,” Prescott told Patrick. “I went to Mississippi State to play under the same offense Tim Tebow played under. I wore number 15 for Tim Tebow. To me, he’s arguably one of the greatest, if not the greatest, college football player, him and Reggie Bush.” Prescott played for Mississippi State football coach Dan Mullen, who was the quarterback coach and offensive coordinator for Tim Tebow at the University of Florida. “So just the fact of everything that he did and how he tough he was at the quarterback position. To me, he changed the quarterback position in college to being a tough guy for some offenses especially that spread offense to running the ball as much as me and him did, that just allowed me to take similarities from his leadership and his game,” Prescott said. To be fair, the comparisons between Tebow and Prescott might be unfair. While Tebow was given nary a fair shot in the NFL, Prescott has already exceeded Tebow’s career statistics after just his rookie year. He has more wins, yards and touchdowns than Tebow had. But Tebow has always been more than just a professional athlete. Some may grade him as a C+ professional ath ...

When we became the first and only password manager to introduce support for the FIDO Alliance’s U2F authentication with Yubico –creators of the YubiKey–last February, we provided you with an innovative, simple way to add an extra layer of security and convenience over your passwords using a YubiKey.
