America’s strength as a democracy and its competitiveness in a global knowledge economy demand that more students receive an outstanding college education. Most proposals to achieve it, however, emphasize scale rather than quality. It’s worth going directly into the classrooms to understand the personalized, challenging education that extraordinary faculty and their classes can provide for 18-22 year olds.
