Briar Cliff Baseball wins over No. 24 Central Methodist

The Briar Cliff Baseball team picked up an 18-9 victory over No. 24 Central Methodist on Monday in Fayette, Missouri. The Chargers improved to 3-4 overall on the season after going 2-1 in the three-game set with the Eagles, while Central Methodist dropped to 7-4 on the year. The Chargers had plenty of fireworks in the game, highlighted by three innings with at least five runs scored. The Cliff came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning and never looking back. Tyler Vanderham did the majority of the damage with one swing of the bat with a grand slam over the left field fence on the first pitch of his at bat. Nick Robinson also drew a bases-loaded walk to score Nick Robinson prior to the grand slam. The Chargers offense exploded again in the third inning with seven runs and another grand slam to go up 12-1. This time the long ball came off the bat of Sawyer Olson. Michael Anthony also had a two-run double in the inning. Robinson would bolster that lead in the fifth inning with a single to right to score Brogan Secrist and make the advantage 13-1. The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 13-4 before the Chargers tacked on five more runs in the top of the ninth inning.
