pThe NYSPHSAA Executive Committee approved a game-ending run rule in varsity Baseball at its quarterly meeting Friday morning in Troy. /ppThe rule states that games will conclude if the run differential is 10 or more after five innings (4 1/2 if the home team is winning) and will be implemented this season and operate on a two-year trial basis. /ppEach section and their leagues will now need to decide if they wish to adopt the rule. The rule is meant to provide consistency to the game-ending procedure, which previously relied on both coaches agreeing on when to end contests, according to state Baseball coordinator Al Roy. In his proposal, Roy also said it’s meant to have a “saving impact” on pitch counts and the number of pitchers used in noncompetitive games. /ppThe committee also approved Section 10’s proposal to reclassify teams based on revised enrollment numbers. Class AA will feature of cut-off of 965 students or more; Class A is 500-965; Class B is 270-499; Class C is 150-269; and Class D is 149 and fewer./ppThese classifications apply to boys and girls soccer, boys and girls basketball, and Baseball and softball. They will take effect for the 2018-19 school year. /ppThe committee also approved championship venues for the years 2019-2021. Wrestling will continue to take place at the Times Union Center in Albany, and boys hockey at the HarborCenter in Buffalo. /p ...
