Maryland baseball beats Stetson, 5-1, to even series

The Terps knot the series with dominant pitching. Tyler Blohm dominated a strong Stetson lineup Saturday afternoon, leading Maryland Baseball to a 5-1 victory to even the series. While the Hatters benefitted from a gem by their starter Friday, it was Maryland’s turn. Blohm lasted eight innings and barely felt any pressure from Stetson’s offense. After struggling last week against East Carolina, Blohm bounced back in a big way. He didn’t have to pitch out of the stretch until the fifth, since Marty Costes threw out Stetson’s Baylen Sparks trying to stretch a single into a double. However, despite allowing a double in the fifth, Blohm worked around it easily. The lefty first found significant trouble in the seventh, allowing Sparks to lead off with a double. After a wild pitch, Stetson’s Brooks Wilson reached on an infield single that scored the Hatters’ first run. However, Blohm worked out of trouble thanks to three strikeouts. In total, Blohm had his best start of the year, lasting eight innings and allowing one run on four hits with a walk and a career-high 12 strikeouts. After he failed to record a strikeout last weekend, and with Maryland’s shaky pitching over the last week, it was a desperately needed start by the lefty.
