Hunter Parsons dazzled on the mound, shutting out the Hatters in the rubber match. Maryland Baseball, behind stellar pitching and small ball, defeated Stetson 2-0 on Sunday in the rubber match of their weekend series in College Park. Hunter Parsons took the mound for the Terps on Sunday, looking to build off his recent success, having lowered his season ERA to 4.20 before the start of the weekend finale. Parsons was nothing but dominant against the Hatters, throwing his first complete game shut out and setting a new career high with nine strikeouts. He was perfect into the fourth inning, setting down the first 11 Stetson batters in order. He had six 1-2-3 innings in the game, throwing 101 pitches to complete the shutout. Sunday’s game took only 1 hour and 52 minutes. Quick doesn't come to describe how fast this game took to complete. The game was a pitcher’s duel early on. Stetson starter Mitchell Stengel, who came into the game with a 3-0 record and 1.86 ERA, was equally dominant on the mound early. Parsons and Stengel were matching pitch for pitch and worked at a fast pace. In the fifth, Maryland broke the scoreless tie. Richie Schiekofer reached on an infield single and Will Watson walked to put two on for the Terps. Justin Morris advanced them up a base on a groundout.
