The Wolverines Omaha hopes took a hit Thursday. Just a little more than 24 hours after a walk-off victory versus No. 6 Iowa, the No. 3 Michigan Wolverines were walked-off by the No. 2 Purdue Boilermakers in the second round of the Big Ten Tournament on Thursday. Purdueâs Evan Warden delivered the game-winning single in the ninth inning off of Michigan lefty closer William Tribucher. Purdue got on the board in the bottom of the first inning courtesy of Jacson McGowanâs two-out RBI single. In the fourth, Evan Kennedyâs run-scoring triple to straightaway center field scored Ben Nisle from first, pushing the Boilermakersâ lead to 2-0. Alec Olund brought home Kennedy with an RBI-groundout moments later to extend the lead to 3-0. The Michigan offense answered in the top of the sixth, after two singles and a walk chased Purdue lefty Gareth Stroh. Stroh stymied the Michigan offense over 5.2 scoreless innings, but was removed in the sixth after issuing hits and a free pass. He walked one and punched out five before turning the ball over to right-handed reliever Bo Hofstra. Against Hofstra, freshman outfielder Jordan Nwogu struck out with the bases loaded and two outs, but the ball advanced to the backstop, plating the Wolverinesâ first run of the game. Brock Keener followed with a two-run single that knotted the score at 3-3. The Boilermakers retook the lead in the seventh after McGowanâs second RBI of the night scored Skyler ...
