The Wolverines suffered their second loss in as many days on Friday afternoon. The No. 3 Michigan Wolverines were bounced from the Big Ten Tournament after suffering a 5-3 defeat at the hands of No. 7 Ohio State Friday afternoon. The loss came a day after the Wolverines endured their first loss in the double-elimination tournament when they were walked-off by No. 2 Purdue. The Buckeyes drew first blood in the bottom of the third inning courtesy of Tyler Cowles’ RBI double. Noah McGowan chimed in with a run-scoring single to extend their lead to 2-0. Michigan cut Ohio State’s lead in half in the fifth inning via Jonathan Engelmann’s sacrifice fly that scored Harrison Salter. The Wolverines trailed 2-1. The Buckeyes responded in a big way in the sixth after a Bo Cooley solo shot to right field. His first of the year made it 3-1. Kobbie Foppe poked an RBI single to center field that extended the lead to 4-1 and Cowles followed with his second RBI of the game and 48th of the season to push it to 5-1. Michigan rallied the next half-inning after Brock Keener muscled a fastball into center field that scored two. They were unable to add on, but cut Ohio State’s lead to 5-3. The Wolverines were silenced in the final two innings as the Buckeyes held on for a 5-3 victory.
