Pat Buchanan: Will NFL Demand Respect for Old Glory?

Source: www.vdare.com --- Monday, September 25, 2017
“America refuses to address the pervasive evil of white cops killing black men, and I will not stand during a national anthem that honors the flag of such a country!” That is the message Colin Kaepernick sent by “taking a knee” during the singing of “The Star Spangled Banner” before San Francisco ’49s games in 2016. No NFL owner picked up his contract in 2017. But a few players began to copy Colin and to “take a knee.” Friday night in Alabama, President Trump raged that any NFL player who disrespects Old Glory is a “son of a b—h” who ought to be kicked off the field and fired by his team’s owner. And if the owners refuse to do their patriotic duty, the fans should take a walk on the NFL. And so the stage was set for NFL Sunday. Two hundred players, almost all black, knelt or sat during the national anthem. The Patriots’ Tom Brady stood in respect for the flag, while locking arms in solidarity with kneeling teammates. The Pittsburgh Steelers coach kept his team in the locker room. Steeler Alejandro Villanueva, an ex-Army Ranger and combat vet, came out and stood erect and alone on the field. For NFL players, coaches, commentators, owners and fans, it was an uncomfortable and sad day. And it is not going to get any better. Sundays with the NFL, as a day of family and friends, rest and respite from the name-calling nastiness of American politics, is over. The culture war has come to the NFL. And Trump will be proven right. Having m ...

Let’s Have a Conversation

Source: www.theblaze.com --- Monday, September 25, 2017
Why are NFL players and many others kneeling at games? Doc Thompson breaks down the story with a chronological timeline of recent NFL protests started by Colin Kaepernick last year. Over the weekend, President Donald Trump used Twitter to blast players who engage in the protest by kneeling during the National Anthem. On Sunday, many players in the NFL and one player from the MLB joined Kaepernick’s protest. But is kneeling the best way to get your point across and connect with other Americans? To see more from Doc, visit his channel on TheBlaze and listen live to “The Morning Blaze with Doc Thompson” weekdays 6–9am ET, only on TheBlaze Radio Network. ...

LeBron James calls Trump a 'bum' and has no regrets

Source: video.stltoday.com --- Monday, September 25, 2017
LeBron James joins a list of other players and celebs who've spoken out against Trump's tweet to fire NFL players who don't stand for the national anthem. The "bum" James is referring to is our president, Donald Trump. James James lashed back after Trump uninvited the Golden State Warriors from a visit to the White House. I’m not going to – while I have this platform – to let one individual no matter the power, no matter the impact that he should or she should have ever use sport as a platform to divide us. ...

#TakeAKnee generates plenty of conversation, but not from brands

Source: www.thedrum.com --- Monday, September 25, 2017
The hashtag #TakeAKnee – and variations like #TakeTheKnee, #TakesAKnee and #TakeAKneeNFL, which show solidarity with NFL players protesting the National Anthem – were used more than 1.6m times in the past week – including 1.53m mentions in the last three days. That’s according to social media monitoring firm Brandwatch, which noted the most recent New York Fashion Week, which is an inherently social event, generated only 755,000 mentions on Twitter and Instagram over eight days. In addition, Brandwatch said #TakeAKnee has accumulated more than 3bn impressions -- and #TakeTheKnee has more than 1.6bn. By way of comparison, social media analytics firm Talkwalker found there were more than 4m social posts “related to the NFL and the National Anthem,” including 2.4m with #TakeAKnee and 1.2m with #TakeTheKnee. Brandwatch said the sentiment of these tweets is 75.3% negative – because in large part the mentions focus on Donald Trump . And that, in turn, is because in a speech on Friday, Trump said , “Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now. Out! He’s fired. He’s fired!’” Trump then reinforced his point on Twitter : If NFL fans refuse to go to games until players stop disrespecting our Flag & Country, you will see change take place fast. Fire or suspend! — Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) September 24, 2017 The flag brouhaha started l ...

Fox News – Yes, Fox News – Says Trump is a Divisive Failure Looking for Distractions

Source: www.newscorpse.com --- Monday, September 25, 2017
The current press attention being placed on subjects like the NFL was created entirely by Donald Trump during his routine morning Tweetstorm. Not that systemic racism isn’t an important issue. But Trump’s framing of it is utterly dishonest. He’s trying to turn it into a debate over patriotism and flag worship. What’s interesting about this attempt at media manipulation is that it’s failing in big way. And it isn’t just the usual suspects in the liberal section who are criticizing Trump. The chief political anchor on Fox News, Bret Baier, is now among those who can no longer ignore Trump’s obvious efforts to deflect from his own scandals. Baier was interviewed by his colleague Jon Scott on Monday (video below): Jon Scott: It’s kind of interesting to me Bret because the controversy over Colin Kaepernick taking a knee – that’s kind of where this all started – pretty well died down. And then the President found a way to dredge it up in his speech on Friday. I guess the question is why? Bret Baier: Well, that is a good question. I think there were six kneeling protests before Friday. The speech Friday and the tweets that followed, there were 200+ as you just heard from John Roberts. […] I think that the president clearly has stirred this up, and it is an emotional discussion. What we are not discussing is that he may likely lose in the senate primary in Alabama. Looks like it is an uphill battle for Luther Strange there. We will see. ...
