LEXINGTON, Ky. – Highlights from Tuesday’s Kentucky Football practice: Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson a Kentucky Football scrimmage. » News of the day: Kentucky offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson has an easy explanation for the offense’s struggles against Florida. “We wanted to show Big Blue Nation to the world in the worst way possible – coaches and players – and we failed,” Dawson said. “We failed because we just tried too damn hard.” Trying too hard is not an explanation you would expect after an offense failed to score a touchdown, but Dawson insisted his players cared too much at times against the Gators. Players to watch | Missouri at Kentucky “In a way we’ve got to play a lot looser,” he said. “That’s just offensive Football. That’s just the way it is offensively. If you go out there and you try to force things and you try to play tight it’s not going to work.” Kentucky totaled just 241 yards and nine points against Florida. Quarterback Patrick Towles was 8-for-24 passing for 126 yards and two interceptions. The offensive line surrendered six sacks in the loss. Still, Dawson is pleased with the effort. After the game he acknowledged some of his players appeared tight in certain situations. He spent the first two days of Missouri prep reiterating to players that they needed to calm down and they are not alone in their struggles. “We need to care a little less and go out there and play a little looser,” Dawson said. ...
