Vet On Demand: When Digital Doesn't Disrupt, But Fixes

We often talk about how innovation, especially through apps, finds success by addressing pain points in the customer experience. Nimble entrepreneurs can opportunistically tackle what larger legacy players can’t—or won’t. The sexiest stories are in the game-changing disruptions — Uber, Airbnb, Facebook, Dropbox. In some categories, however, technology adaptation doesn’t go through a disruptive cycle but gets integrated into the business cycle, and out of that comes interesting applications and new businesses that solve pain points that are hardly niche, but broad and mass. Think of how The New York Times cracked the content pay wall, how Evernote simplified digital note taking, or how Tinder dramatically updated the dating game with two swipes.
