NFL News: Player News and Updates for 2/28/16

Source: sportschatplace.com --- Sunday, February 28, 2016
We’ve nearly come to the end of the 2016 NFL Scouting Combine, and there’s plenty to talk about in today’s wrap-up. That said, let’s check out some of the notable players and situations out there right now. Sources close to the Broncos are now expecting Peyton Manning to retire, and we’re expecting to get an official announcement late this week. The retirement decision would surprise absolutely no one, as Manning had a rough season with injuries, and would go out on top after his second Super Bowl win. It’s also good news financially for the Broncos, as $19 million will come off the books in cap space for 2016. The Jaguars coaching staff expects RB T.J. Yeldon to handle a big workload as an every-down back this year. Yeldon missed out on four games, but still tallied 620 snaps in 2015. He did pretty well in most protection duties. He should take another step forward this season. One question Dallas fans have been batting around this off-season is whether or not the Cowboys will draft a quarterback with their No. 4 pick this year. Tony Romo’s health will be a big question mark heading into 2016, as he’s had myriad issues with his shoulder. That said, the team is hitching their proverbial cart to him for the foreseeable future. He’s signed through 2020, and he’ll be 40 that year. In other NFC East news, the Redskins and Kirk Cousins are currently going back and forth on contract negotiations. Washington reportedly offered Cousins $ ...

Elton John and Lady Gaga Perform at Free Surprise Concert on L.A.’s Sunset Strip: WATCH

Source: www.towleroad.com - Sunday, February 28, 2016
Elton John wanted to thank the city and community for allowing him to host his Academy Awards party there every year, so he returned to the spot where he said he spent so much money over the years he could have “probably bought Los Angeles:” the parking lot of Tower Records on the Sunset Strip. Elton played for more than an hour, and brought out Lady Gaga to sing with him on his classic “Don’t Let the Sun Go Down on Me”. Sunset Boulevard was closed off for more than three blocks to hold the throngs of people that found out about the free concert, which was only announced the night before. The L.A. Times reports : West Hollywood Mayor Lindsey Horvath introduced John, telling the audience that over the last 24 years, his AIDS Foundation has raised more than $300 million for research and treatment. During the show John also noted that it was only a short distance away, at the long-running folk-rock Troubadour nightclub, where he made his acclaimed U.S. debut in 1970. “I was terrified,” he said. “We didn’t know what to expect, because we had never been to America before.” Those performances ignited U.S. music industry interest in John, and he quickly became a major star here. He then performed “Your Song,” his first U.S. hit, noting that it was among the numbers he played at the Troubadour almost 46 years ago. Wrote Gaga on Instagram following the concert: “ This great man has inspired generations with his powerful music and warm hea

Become A Multi-Millionaire Life Coach

While the number of life coaches continues to expand, only a small percentage of them are becoming seriously wealthy. Personal affluence is not necessarily the motivator for many of them. However, those that are amassing significant personal wealth are taking many of the same actions. For life coaches interested in creating their own personal fortunes, there are a number of interconnected strategies that can prove very helpful: Become a thought leader. A thought leader is a recognized authority that is monetizing this positioning. It proves extremely effective in differentiating one life coach from his or her competitors and simultaneously garnering high-quality clients. A thought leader communicates to existing and potential clients as well as referral sources that he or she has a deep understanding of a particular area of specialization coupled with an actionable approach that will be highly beneficial to them. Use an achievement-based compensation model. Compensation for most life coaches is time based, and many times this is the only viable approach. However, there are likely to be possible situations where achievement-based compensation is possible and therefore should be used. Examples of achievement-based compensation include premium pricing, success fees, and venturing. Build a high-end clientele. This usually means the life coach is working with the more affluent members of society as they are often copacetic with achievement-based compensation, and they can afford the fees. In order to build a high-end clientele will often involve being a thought leader and skillfully networking with centers of influence to generate a steady stream of potential wealthier clients. Leverage a life coaching practice. There are a variety of non-exclusive ways to leverage a life coaching practice. For example, “licensing” a life coaching approach and/or content to be used by other life coaches is one approach. The licenser receives a per-set fee and/or a percentage of their revenues. Another example of leverage is extensive productization. Workshops and even larger events are often very powerful ways of generating income and garnering new clients. Webinars, podcasts, DVD sets, and books all prove very useful in enhancing incomes while bringing in new life coaching clients.

Huskers Fall in Extras to Arizona, 11-10

Source: krvn.com --- Sunday, February 28, 2016
San Diego - The Nebraska Baseball team (1-4) played extra innings for the first time this season and fell to the No. 23 Arizona Wildcats (3-3), 11-10, in 10 innings. The Huskers tied the game, 10-10, in the bottom of the eighth with four runs, but were unable to add any more the rest of the way, while the Wildcats picked up their ninth two-RBI of the game in the top of the 10th on their way to victory. Alfonso Rivas started the top of the 10th with a single and was quickly at second base following a passed ball that would prove costly. Freshman relieve Chad Luensmann notched a strikeout and a ground out, but then Louis Boyd came through with a two-out single that drove in Rivas for the eventual game-winning run. The Husker got the tying run on base in the bottom of the frame when Ben Miller worked a one-out walk, but Bobby Dalbec got consecutive pop outs to seal the win for the Wildcats. Arizona's two-out hitting was the story, as the Wildcats drove in nine of their 11 runs with nine two-out hits, including three-run home run by Ryan Aguilar in the top of the eighth that gave Arizona a 10-6 lead. Nebraska totaled 14 hits on the day, including three from Ryan Boldt and two each from Jake Placzek, Ben Miller, Jake Meyers and Steven Reveles. Placzek notched a home run and a double, while driving in a career-high four runs. With no runs in the first three innings though their first four games of the year, the Huskers got on the board ...

Liverpool vs. Manchester City 2016: Time, TV schedule and news for Capital One Cup final

Source: www.sbnation.com - Sunday, February 28, 2016
Liverpool take on Manchester City in the final of the Capital One Cup on Sunday. This weekend provides us with a brief distraction from the tense Premier League title race. On Sunday, all attention will shift to the first domestic cup final of the season: that of the Capital One Cup. Liverpool will be gunning for their first silverware under Jürgen Klopp, while Manchester City boss Manuel Pellegrini may well be going for his last -- he's being replaced by Pep Guardiola at the end of the season. Both of these sides have been oddly erratic this season, and there really is no predicting how this one will turn out. In theory, it's City who have the edge. The Citizens are considerably stronger on paper than their Merseyside opponents, and an attack comprising of Sergio Agüero, David Silva, Raheem Sterling and Yaya Touré is enough to terrify any defense. But having said that, they're rather weaker at the back than they should be, with Nicolás Otamendi having failed to impress, and captain Vincent Kompany struggling to stay fit for extended periods. There's no doubt that Liverpool have a good chance of winning this game. Key player: Yaya Touré (Manchester City) it's no coincidence that when Manchester City play well, Yaya Touré plays well; when City play badly, it's often because Touré's not pulling his weight. His aversion to defensive duties must be accommodated by Pellegrini; and it wouldn't be surprising to see the Ivorian continuin

Drew Clark: For the presidential debate: Four questions from great presidents

Source: www.deseretnews.com - Sunday, February 28, 2016
SALT LAKE CITY — As our nation selects its next president in this year's election, what moral values can we learn from predecessors? What must voters know about the character traits of a potential president? The Republican National Committee's decision to host an additional primary debate in Salt Lake City on Monday, March 21, provides the opportunity to ask these questions, and to get answers, of Republicans. Here are four questions flowing from the lives of and political legacies of four great presidents: George Washington — As our first president, Washington knew he was setting the precedent. Soon after he declined to run for a third term, and after John Adams was elected, the governor of Connecticut — and Washington’s former military secretary — urged him to run again. "Election of a President is near at hand,” wrote Jonathan Trumbull , “and I have confidence in believing, that, should your Name again be brought up … you will not disappoint the hopes & Desires of the Wise & Good in every State, by refusing to come forward once more to the relief & support of your injured Country.” “Prudence on my part,” Washington replied, “must arrest any attempt of the well meant, but mistaken views of my friends, to introduce me again into the Chair of Government." Question: When have you put aside power or personal advantage for the good of your country? Thomas Jefferson — Jefferson’s expansive mind made him an enlightenment man, and whos

LeBron James on Stephen Curry: 'He's ridiculous, man"

Source: www.cleveland.com - Sunday, February 28, 2016
Like the rest of us, LeBron James was in awe of Stephen Curry after what he did to Oklahoma City on Saturday night. CLEVELAND, Ohio -- LeBron James either shrieked in admiration and horror when Stephen Curry's last 3-pointer splashed, or he sat in stunned silence. Either way, James reacted like most of us when Curry buried his NBA-record-tying 12th 3-pointer to beat Oklahoma City 121-118 in overtime Saturday night on ABC. @StephenCurry30 needs to stop it man!! He's ridiculous man! Never before seen someone like him in the history of ball! -- LeBron James (@KingJames) February 28, 2016   Yes, Curry is ridiculous. He broke his own single-season record of 287 3-pointers Saturday night. He's got 288 this year, with 24 games to go. So, yes, Curry broke his own record with that crazy, near-halfcourt bomb.   Curry also finished with 46 points, and, oh, by the way, the Warriors are 53-5. James actually sent two tweets after the game, but deleted the first. It said: "@StephenCurry30 needs to quit it man!! Ridiculous homie. Ball game! Set match" Curry and the Warriors, of course, have emerged as James' main foil. They beat the Cavs in the Finals last season and, let's be honest, look pretty good for a return trip in June. Curry is also the reigning MVP and likely marching toward a second consecutive award -- something James has won four times. Golden State also beat the Cavs twice this season, by six on Christmas Day and 34 (in Cleveland)

Combine Notes: Paxton’s Past, Cap Raised

Source: www.phillymag.com - Saturday, February 27, 2016
Paxton Lynch. (USA Today Sports) INDIANAPOLIS — Quarterbacks trickled in and out of the media room at the NFL Combine on Thursday, with all of the top prospects addressing reporters except one: Paxton Lynch . Later, rumors circulated about why the Memphis quarterback unexpectedly missed his availability, and it was attributed to potential health problems. But Lynch put that speculation to bed on Friday. “I had an issue with my left knee and my right knee and an issue with my AC joint,” he said. “When I hurt my AC joint back in my redshirt sophomore year of college in Cincinnati, I didn’t realize that I had — I think they said it was just a small fracture in my clavicle. So that popped up on the X-ray, but it was healed. But there was just some piece of the bone, I guess, just floating around in there. “So it spooked a team or two, I think, and that’s why they requested the MRIs and all that. But I mean, I didn’t miss a game or a practice or a single throw because of it, and none of those injuries bother me today. I’m 100 percent, so I was more than willing to do what they need me to do.” It’s always interesting to learn why top prospects who attended non-Power Five colleges weren’t given opportunities at bigger programs out of high school, whether the player was a late-bloomer or simply underestimated. But with Lynch, part of the issue seems to be the scheme he ran in high school. “I didn’t really throw the ball at all in high sc

George Osborne Warns Brexit Will Provoke A 'Shock To The World Economy'

Source: http://ift.tt/zP5LE8 - Saturday, February 27, 2016
All of the world's biggest countries have united in warning that a British exit from the European Union would provoke "a shock to the world economy", George Osborne has said. The Chancellor hailed the unanimous agreement on the risk of Brexit after it was included in a communique after a meeting of G20 finance ministers in Shanghai, China, the Press Association reported. He said: "Finance leaders and central bank governors of the world's biggest economies have raised serious concerns about the risks posed by a UK exit from the EU. "They have concluded unanimously today that what they call the shock of a potential UK vote to leave is among the biggest economic dangers this year. "If that's their assessment of the impact on the world economy, imagine what it would do to the UK." After securing the public backing of colleagues from major nations including China and the US for the Government's pro-membership stance, he also took a thinly veiled swipe at Boris Johnson. The Mayor of London faced accusations of "flip-flopping" after he ruled out the possibility of a vote to leave on June 23 leading to a better offer from Brussels and a second referendum. In his declaration of support for the leave campaign last week, Johnson wrote in his Telegraph column that "EU history shows that they only really listen to a population when it says 'no'". It was widely seen as backing for the idea of a fresh vote - also backed by former Tory leader Mi

Ireland general election: exit polls show coalition losing majority – live

Source: www.theguardian.com - Saturday, February 27, 2016
Early signs show slump in support for Fine Gael and Labour coalition Gains by independents, Fianna Fáil and Sinn Féin Fresh elections already mooted amid signs of hung parliament Two million voters give verdict on five years of austerity 10.26am GMT It’s worth recording that the UK’s prime minister, David Cameron, is in Northern Ireland today as part of campaigning for British voters to remain in the EU in the upcoming referendum. As it happens, many commentators in Ireland regard the UK’s referendum as being potentially more important for the long-term future of Ireland. The UK still accounts for around 15 per cent of Irish goods exports. I wouldn’t give advice, but that last part sounded to me like a long-term economic plan that is working for people in the Republic. 10.19am GMT An early front runner in the constituency of Dublin Central is Sinn Fein’s vice president, Mary Lou McDonald, who is on 22% of the vote after the opening of 16% of ballot boxes. 10.14am GMT A prediction by Fine Gael’s general secretary, Tom Curran, who says that the party may lose up to 20 seats and fall well below 50 if the exit polls are correct. 10.11am GMT So let’s zero in on one of the constituencies now, that of the Tanaiste (deputy Irish prime minister) Joan Burton , who was expected to face a struggle to hold on to her seat. With 10% of ballot boxes open in the Dublin west constituency, she appears to be holding up for now: 10.02am GMT Is there

Could Falcons Show Interest In These Day 1 NFL Combine Standouts?

Source: atlanta.cbslocal.com --- Saturday, February 27, 2016
Running backs, offensive linemen and special teamers took center stage in Indianapolis Friday at the 2016 NFL Combine. Before the Football world shifts focus to Saturday and the quarterbacks, receivers and tight ends, let’s look at some interesting Falcons’ storylines from Day 1. [Editorial Note: I left out winners among the running backs — like Alabama’s Kenyan Drake — because the Falcons will not likely select a ball-carrier in this year’s draft with only five picks.] NC State offensive lineman Joe Thuney was a bright spot for the linemen Friday. He ran a 4.95-second 40-yard dash (second-best time), his broad jump was 110 inches (sixth among linemen — 9 feet-2 inches) , he finished the three-cone drill in 7.47-seconds (sixth place) and posted a 4.54-second 20-yard shuttle (sixth place). In addition to his times on the field, Thuney looked fundamentally sound and showed quickness and burst. His 28 reps in the bench press fit nicely with his 6-foot-5-inch, 304 pound frame. He played all across the offensive line for the Wolfpack, but projects as a guard in the NFL. 28 bench press reps for Joe Thuney at #NFLCombine ,tied for 11th among OL. He’s made himself some $ with that & weighing in at 300+ #PackPros — Ryan Tice (@RyanTice) February 25, 2016 CBS Sports hit him with a pre-combine seventh-round grade, but that might rise as the dust settles on Indy next week. Combine Notes: Paxton’s Past, Cap Raised

Source: www.phillymag.com --- Saturday, February 27, 2016
“I didn’t really throw the ball at all in high sc ...

Almonte tested positive for Boldenone, which is real drug despite having a ridiculous, made-up sounding name. Almonte hasn't even been with Cleveland for 80 games yet -- he arrived from San Diego via trade in 2015 in exchange for reliever Mark Rzepczynski, and appeared in 51 games for the Tribe. Germany says it lost 130,000 refugees

Source: http://ift.tt/eKERsB - Saturday, February 27, 2016
The German government does not know the whereabouts of around 13 percent of the refugees who entered the country last year. Following a demand from the German Left Party, authorities released a parliamentary document on Friday that said 130,000 people who registered for asylum last year are missing, the AFP reports .  "About 13 percent did not turn up at the reception centres to which they had been directed," the document stated, while explaining that some might have returned to their home countries, moved on to other European countries, and some could have also registered more than once.  The government announced plans to help address the problem, which include issuing identity documents as soon as a migrant arrives to Germany thus avoiding repeated registration.  In 2015, Germany accepted over one million asylum seekers, shouldering most of the refugee crisis hitting Europe. The large numbers of migrants coming into the country have caused Angela Merkel's popularity to drop dramatically as people have started to resent her "open-door" policy. Fears that criminals and terrorists could hide among the crowds of thousands of migrants coming to Europe have also gripped the public, especially since reports have shown that most of the men behind the November 13 attacks in Paris came to the continent with refugees.  German authorities have started implementing new rules  to deal with the huge number of migrants, which include restricti

Each year, the combine serves as the brain center of the league as it pokes, prods and tests the majority of incoming talent from the collegiate ranks. Despite the importance of the medical evaluations and team interviews, the individual workouts headline the event. The offensive linemen and running backs paved the way Friday for the quarterbacks, wide receivers and tight ends, who will be on display Saturday. California's Jared Goff, North Dakota State's Carson Wentz and Memphis' Paxton Lynch are all considered potential first-round talents, and they're expected to throw in front of NFL decision-makers. The youngest of five Gronkowski boys, three of whom played in the NFL, Glenn was peppered with questions about one of his brothers, New England Patriots star tight end Rob Gronkowski, who has a knack for making as many headlines off the field with his fun-loving, partying ways as he does on the field with his rare size and athleticism.

Lightly recruited players now turning heads at NFL combine

Source: www.sfgate.com --- Friday, February 26, 2016
Lightly recruited players now turning heads at NFL combine [...] the left tackle from Michigan State, who started his college career as an invited walk-on, is one of the most coveted offensive linemen in the nation. [...] Conklin bet on himself — just like a surprisingly high number of other big-name players in this year's draft class. Alabama coach Nick Saban kept him at running back and after two seasons as T.J. Yeldon's backup, Henry became the school's second Heisman Trophy winner and led the Crimson Tide to the national championship. Receiver Josh Doctson wanted to play college football in his native Texas, but spent his freshman season at Wyoming. To Doctson, the chance of a combine invite seemed so remote he didn't even consider it until he played his final college game. To be here now four years later, training for the combine and possibly being a first-round pick, it's crazy. ...

WASHINGTON – Things are heating up ahead of Super Tuesday. On Friday, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie endorsed Donald Trump’s presidential bid at a press conference in Texas. At the news conference, Christie said there is no one better prepared to lead the country in the Republican race, adding that Trump is “rewriting the playbook of American politics.” “It is my great honor to receive the endorsement of the Governor. We have had a wonderful relationship for many years. He is a solid person that I have tremendous respect for. I am really proud to receive the support of the Governor and his family,” Trump said in a statement. Christie dropped out of the race after a disappointing finish in New Hampshire. Donald Trump will be making a campaign stop in Oklahoma City on Friday, Feb. 26 at the Cox Convention Center. Christie will join Trump in Oklahoma City, according to a press release from Donald Trump. Doors will open at 4 p.m. and the event begins at 6 p.m. This will be Trump’s third visit to the state in several months. On March 1, voters across the country will head to the polls to select their candidate in the primary election. Polls will be open at 7 a.m. until 7 p.m. on Tuesday.

Who is Gianni Infantino? Sizing up FIFA's potential savior

Gianni Infantino, that's our man. But will he be able to change FIFA's corrupted culture?  We can't tell Infantino's future, but we can glean clues from the past — including a ringing post-vote endorsement from none other than Sepp Blatter, the disgraced ruler Infantino now replaces.  SEE ALSO: Sepp Blatter is delivering deranged quotes until the bitter end Shortly after Infantino was elected Friday, Blatter issued a statement that said the 45-year-old Infantino "has all the qualities to continue my work and to stabilize FIFA again." Safeguard Your Network with New Cisco Small Business Routers

Source: smallbiztrends.com - Friday, February 26, 2016
The Internet provides small businesses with an incredible amount of access to resources, but this access comes with some caveats, and security happens to be one of them. The new Cisco Small Business Routers: the RV320 and RV325 with Web filtering look to add a layer of protection by preventing access to dangerous sites on the Web. The security threat landscape in the digital world is well documented. While the data breaches in large public and private organizations grab the headlines, thousands of such events take place daily targeting small businesses and individual users. In many cases, the attacks are launched when users perform benign tasks such as visiting a website, opening emails or documents and downloading apps, music or games. And for small companies with limited budgets where it is not feasible to have a security expert on staff, a small business router such as the ones Cisco is offering can solve the problem. The Cisco small business router comes with Web filtering to close the gateways hackers would use to launch their attacks. Specifically, these are the nearly endless number of websites and links that your employees might be visiting without your knowledge. Any one could be a means of gaining access to your systems and data. With the new routers, you can institute a new Web policy for your company ‘s systems in minutes and be fairly certain it is being enforced, all without new expensive security measures or more I

Derrick Henry has impressive workout at combine

Source: gridironnow.com --- Friday, February 26, 2016
There are a few draft analysts who think Alabama running back Derrick Henry will go in the first round in April’s draft, and Henry’s performance Friday at the NFL Scouting Combine gave some credence to those opinions. Henry, who measured 6 feet 3 and 247 pounds at his official combine weigh-in earlier this week, put on an impressive show. His vertical jump was measured at 37 inches, third-best among all running backs. He also had an excellent broad jump of 130 inches (10 feet, 10 inches). And he was clocked in 4.54 seconds in the 40. His straight-line speed was a question, and he answered that in resounding fashion for a 247-pounder. Only 10 backs at the combine ran under 4.5. One of those was Ohio State’s Ezekiel Elliott, generally considered the top back available. Elliott, who measured 6-0 and 225, was clocking in 4.47 seconds. Arkansas’ Alex Collins had a time of 4.59, which was mildly disappointing. Trump Can't Even Figure Out Which Smartphone To Use

Source: http://ift.tt/hFWySe --- Friday, February 26, 2016
Donald Trump flip-flops even when it comes to his choice of smartphone. The Republican presidential candidate called for a boycott on Apple products last week when the tech giant refused to unlock an iPhone  connected to a terror investigation. He vowed  only to use Samsung devices  until Apple changes course, and urged his supporters not to give Apple any business. But a glance at his tweets Friday reveals that Trump -- or someone on his campaign -- is still using an Apple iPhone to dole out abuse.  The plot thickens: Trump also appears to be using an Android phone (manufactured by Samsung). Here he is elevating the discourse about rival candidate Ted Cruz:  A representative for Trump's campaign did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday. It's likely that Trump doesn't actually press the publish button on all of his own tweets, though he reportedly dictates all of them , at least. And it's previously been reported that his personal device is a Samsung Galaxy phone. Still, the man made a pretty blunt statement about iPhones last week: Don't use them until Apple cooperates with the FBI. Apple certainly hasn't done that yet , so what's the deal? Maybe Trump -- whose net worth is reportedly $4.5 billion -- doesn't have enough conviction in his own viewpoints to buy a couple of new smartphones for his communications team. Or maybe he thinks it's more important for everyday voters to boycott Apple than it is for upper ...

Rivlin criticized for cancelling Australia trip to visit Moscow

Source: www.debka.com --- Friday, February 26, 2016
February 26, 2016, 7:21 PM (IDT) Reuven Rivlin’s surprising decision to call off the first visit to Canberra by an Israeli president since 2005, after President Vladimir invited him to Moscow, has been widely criticized as an unacceptable affront to a friendly government. The Putin invitation was received four days ago, a week after the official visit to Australia had been organized and set for March 13-22. Rivlin decided to cancel Australia and accept Putin’s invitation for March 16-18 on the advice of Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Moshe Ya’alon. They insisted that considerations of national security outweighed the diplomatic factor and made it imperative to talk to Putin face to face on the Syrian imbroglio. Dissatisfaction was expressed by a senior Australian official, who noted that national schedules and other foreign visits had been rescheduled to make room for the Rivlin visit. ...

Appeals Court Dumps Apple's Slide To Unlock Patent, Tosses Massive Jury Award Against Samsung In The Trash

Source: www.techdirt.com --- Friday, February 26, 2016
Apple may have been able to convince a jury that Samsung violated a bunch of its patents, on concepts like "slide to unlock," but apparently the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit (CAFC) disagrees. Despite the court's reputation for regularly expanding the power of patents (and getting smacked around by the Supreme Court for doing so), CAFC has sided with Samsung and tossed out a jury's $120 million award and with it some Apple patents -- including "slide to unlock." There were a few different patents in this lawsuit, and the appeals court found that Samsung didn't infringe on one of them and that two others were invalid. On the Slide to Unlock patent -- US Patent 8,046,721 -- the court said it was invalidated due to obviousness and the fact that all of the elements involved in slide to unlock were found in prior art. It notes that the "case for obviousness was strong" while "Apple's evidence... was weak." In fact, the court is not at all impressed by Apple's arguments for why "slide to unlock" was some great innovation -- including the idea that because the Steve Jobs reality distortion field made people all excited about it, that doesn't mean the idea wasn't obvious at the time. Apple appears to identify the unsolved problem as the lack of an “intuitive” method of unlocking a touch-screen portable device. But Apple provided no evidence showing that this problem was recognized in the industry. No reasonable jury could find ...

Australia unveils 'massive' increase in defence spending

Source: www.spacewar.com --- Friday, February 26, 2016
Sydney (AFP) Feb 25, 2016 - Australia unveiled a massive new investment in the nation's defence capabilities on Thursday to address what Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull called "high stakes" and "momentous times" in Asia. Citing increased defence spending around the region and potential flashpoints in the South China Sea and the Korean peninsula, he said the government was committed to combating the most challenging strategic environment "we have faced in peacetime". "These are momentous times. The stakes are high. And as the opportunities expand, so does the cost of losing them," Turnbull said in launching a new Defence White Paper in Canberra. "A stronger Australia supports a safer Australia, a safer region and a safer world." The government said it would spend Aus$195 billion (US$139 billion) over the next decade, including a doubling of its submarine fleet to 24, three additional destroyers, nine new frigates and 12 offshore patrol boats. Maritime surveillance would also be boosted by the purchase of seven US-made MQ-4C Triton drones and eight P-8A Poseidon aircraft. New air defence weapons would boost the force's capabilities with 72 F-35s, known as Joint Strike Fighters, added from 2020, while the army's equipment and armoured vehicle fleet will be upgraded. Some 2,500 new military roles will be created to expand the total defence force to 62,400 personnel, with 900 jobs focused on improved cyber, intelligence and space secu ...

Microsoft said to be working on Windows 10 ROM for Xiaomi Mi 5 ,OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3

Source: mspoweruser.com --- Thursday, February 25, 2016
Yesterday many of our readers were not too happy when we reported on the Xiaomi Mi 5 , despite a reasonable expectation that Microsoft will release a Windows 10 Mobile ROM for the device, given Microsoft’s work on the Xiaomi Mi 4. Hopefully today however sentiments will be different, as more evidence has emerged that this ROM is indeed on the way, with a Microsoft representative revealing on Weibo in China that Microsoft is planning to release Windows 10 Mobile not just for the Xiaomi Mi 5, but also the OnePlus 2 and OnePlus 3. The Xiaomi Mi 5 of course features superb specs for only around $500, while the OnePlus 2 has a 1080P screen, Snapdragon 810 processor, USB-C and up to 64 GB storage for around $350. Windows 10 Mobile OEMs have mostly missed out on the high specs for a low price revolution witnessed in the East, but Microsoft’s work may provide easy access to the best of Android flagships, and while of course we would prefer devices designed specifically for Windows 10, I would certainly not turn down a Windows 10 Samsung Galaxy S7 simply because it did not ship with Windows 10 Mobile from the start. Apple is collaborating with tech companies and U.S. authorities to tackle terrorism online

Source: www.imore.com --- Thursday, February 25, 2016
The Obama administration is looking to ramp up efforts to tackle the threat of ISIS online. It's reported that executives from a variety of companies, including Apple , Twitter , Snapchat, Facebook and MTV met at the Justice Department on Wednesday. It's interesting to note Apple's attendance considering the company is currently locked in a battle against the FBI .
