MOREHEAD, Ky. (WTVQ)- Morehead State University’s athletic director announced Sean Woods’ resignation following an independent investigation into complaints the coach assaulted two of his own players during a game in Evansville, Indiana. “While disappointed in what brought us here today, I believe in the resiliency of our team and know they will continue to dedicate themselves to their utmost,” said Brian Hutchinson, the athletic director for Morehead State. The mood was somber as Hutchinson read a prepared statement announcing the resignation of head men’s Basketball coach Sean Woods. The decision comes after two players accused the coach of hitting and pushing them during a November 19th game at the University of Evansville. “Clearly whenever you have incidents that affect the environment that your student athletes live in, it is important that if it’s correctable it gets corrected,” said Hutchinson. Police in Evansville filed battery charges against Woods on Tuesday. He is scheduled to be in court in February. This is not the first time Woods has been involved in controversy, four years ago he was suspended for one game for screaming at a player during a loss to the University of Kentucky.
