Teenager Shaquille Whittingham has signed a contract with Market Drayton Town Football Club until the end of the season. Whittingham joined the club at the beginning of the season from Tividale and has impressed club officials with a series of outstanding performances. Moments after signing for The Gingerbreadmen, Whittingham scored the winner in a 2-1 league win over Gresley. Vice-Chairman Rupert Dyke said “I first watched Shaq when he was at Tividale and his starred in a 3-3 draw against us there. He joined Market Drayton, we visited Leek Town in the league, and within a few minutes he had beaten two defenders and blasted the ball into the top corner to score a stunning goal. I knew we would have to keep a close eye on him and we really think he's one to watch for the future. We are known for nurturing young players and you only have to look at Cohen Bramall's success to see that we need to protect the club's interests when big name teams come knocking on the door to take our best players. We wouldn't stand in the way of one of our players if they wanted to move on – every player would like to play at higher levels – but we would like to be compensated for developing their talent whilst they're here.” “There is a huge financial commitment to contracting players at this level but there is a contract for everyone at the club who can really show us their potential week in week out.
