The Windows were smashed leaving broken glass everywhere (Picture: Wessex News) Four NHS ambulances had to be taken off the road after they were targeted by vandals causing £85,000 of damage. They needed major repair work after someone smashed their Windows and stole defibrillators from inside the vehicles. While they were in the garage being made road-worthy again, they couldn’t respond to emergency calls until evening, missing almost a full day. A spokesman for East Midlands Ambulance Service said the cost of repairs to the vehicles and of replacing the equipment would run to about £85,000 which the taxpayer would have to pay.
