Steering Into the Skid – Results from the “Beat Jeff Erickson” Draft
Source: www.rotowire.com --- Wednesday, February 28, 2018
My Baseball draft season began in earnest Tuesday night with the “Beat Jeff Erickson” contest in the NFBC’s RotoWire Online Championship. As a quick reminder, there are two components to this contest – your 12-team league, and an overall contest that over 1,700 entries last year, at $350 per person. There’s no trading in the league, and the pressure to do well in the overall contest in addition to the individual league creates the incentive to contend in all categories. That said, there’s a difference between competing in all categories, and exiting the draft with a perfectly balanced team. For starters, the latter concept is mostly an illusion – we think we have balance, but injuries and managerial whims often conspire from attaining that balance, let alone the volatile nature of the game. You may very well think you have 90 saves in the bag after a draft, but you might have 30, or you might have 120. The latter is fine, except that you probably invested more resources than you needed to hit your target number, preventing you from contending in other categories overall. Tuesday night’s draft was exceedingly challenging. Of course, that’s a near-evergreen sentiment when discussing the NFBC. It’s not often that you run into a league where there are inexperienced players, ill-prepared players or those that are experimenting with strategy, given their investment in the league. As Chris Liss always preaches, having skin in the game ...

MLB Players Union Files Grievance vs. Marlins, Rays, A's, Pirates over Spending
Source: bleacherreport.com --- Tuesday, February 27, 2018
The Major League Baseball Players Association filed a grievance against the Miami Marlins, Oakland Athletics, Pittsburgh Pirates and Tampa Bay Rays for allegedly failing to comply with revenue-sharing rules. On Tuesday, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reported the players' union seeks "some form of compensation for players that were not signed" following a slow free-agent signing period, but the league doesn't believe any wrongdoing has occurred. "We have received the grievance and believe it has no merit," MLB said in a statement to Topkin. Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports first reported the potential of a grievance last month with the union initially focused on the Marlins and Pirates, who each traded away multiple high-profile assets during the offseason, as possible violators of the guidelines. The collective bargaining agreement states that every team must use money received from revenue sharing as part of "an effort to improve its performance on the field," per Passan. The MLBPA wants to ensure ownership groups aren't "pocketing" the money or using it to "buy down debt." While many veteran players remain free agents with spring training underway, the teams listed in the grievance have made little attempt to significantly improve their rosters. The Marlins traded Giancarlo Stanton, Christian Yelich, Marcell Ozuna and Dee Gordon in blockbuster deals that brought back mostly prospects. Pittsburgh dealt Andrew McCutchen and Ge ...

Report: Baseball player mimics shooting Hays players at local tournament
Source: preps.blog.statesman.com --- Tuesday, February 27, 2018
Hays head Baseball coach, James Howard, right, and the Rebels competed in the San Marcos tournament last weekend. An opposing player from Victoria East mimicked shooting the Hays players in a game Friday . FILE PHOTO. RODOLFO GONZALEZ / AUSTIN AMERICAN-STATESMAN A Baseball player from Victoria East High School apparently mimicked shooting Hays players with a fake rifle during a tournament game this past weekend at San Marcos High School, according to a report in the Victoria Advocate newspaper. Manny Perez, a retired agent for the U.S. Border Patrol, attended the game. He watched the Victoria East player “lying in front of the dugout with what looked like a bat shaped like a rifle pretending to shoot the Hays players on the field,” according to the article by reporter Mike Forman. “What really disturbed me is the kid was lying flat on the ground in front of the dugout,” Perez told the Advocate. “He was in front of the coaches, the umpires and all of the public. He was lying on the ground pointing his mock AR-15 in the direction of the field of the opposing team, who happened to be playing defense at the time. There was another young man standing next to him, and there’s two blue bottles wrapped in a pink strap, and they were using those as binoculars. It appeared to be like a spotter, and the kid with the mock AR-15 would recoil like an action after shooting his shot.” UIL media director Kate Hector told the Advocate that comp ...

MLBPA Files Grievance Against Four Teams Over Revenue Sharing Funds
Source: www.mlbtraderumors.com --- Tuesday, February 27, 2018
The Major League Baseball Player’s Association has initiated a grievance proceeding against the Athletics, Marlins, Pirates, and Rays regarding those teams’ spending of revenue sharing dollars, according to a report from Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times . This general issue has been percolating for some time, even as additional concerns have arisen as to the pace of free-agent signings over the 2017-18 offseason. The MLBPA reportedly engaged with the league office over the Miami and Pittsburgh organizations’ spending earlier this year. At the time, MLB and the teams at issue rejected the idea that there was any issue worth exploring further. Clearly, the union disagrees and also feels that two other organizations’ practices merit examination. Per Topkin, the complaint relates to spending both last year and over the present offseason. Revenue-sharing dollars — which will be phased out for the A’s under the current Basic Agreement — are required to be spent for improving the MLB performance of recipient clubs. That doesn’t necessarily mean it all must go to player salaries, but though teams are required to report on how they use the money. And as JJ Cooper of Baseball America notes on Twitter , successive collective bargaining agreements have tightened the permissible uses. Enforcing the provisions relating to these funds falls in the domain of commissioner Rob Manfred. He can issue penalties, require the submission of a two-yea ...

Jason Kipnis and Tyler Naquin Boomerang Effect: While We’re Waiting
Source: waitingfornextyear.com --- Tuesday, February 27, 2018
Being a fan employs a natural level of irrational affection or disdain towards athletes and teams. When this crosses over into Baseball fanhood, we tend to elevate athletes that meet certain criteria: hustle, swagger, and charisma. Tyler Naquin and Jason Kipnis collectively checked these boxes and ascended quickly. Kipnis’ Fenway debut sparked fan adulation only further amplified by Manny Acta’s ‘Dirtbag’ moniker. Naquin hit all the right notes on the “Gets Us” meter following an improbable walk-off inside-the-park-homerun as he flashed the now infamous hand gesture telling the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame city to ‘Rock On.’ The two of them also produced immediate results causing initial collective fan opinion of them to skyrocket. Each player saw their value become quickly distorted; reaching points of excessive praise. As a natural response to the over-valuation of a player, human nature kicks in and we pick them apart to the point that their collective skill sets tend to be marginalized and undervalued. The boomerang effect has left us with two guys who fans are generally down on and with good reason to an extent. Tyler Naquin Tyler Naquin’s 2016 campaign was incredible, particularly in the first half. For much of it, he was an integral cog in the soon-to-be American League champion Indians’ offense. Over that 365 plate appearance sample size, he was basically Ryan Braun. A home run every 26 plate appearances. An OPS just shy of ...

Technical Tidbits 2/27: Baseball Looks to Make it Five in a Row

Plus a look ahead to next week’s ACC Basketball Tournament Georgia Tech Baseball will look to build on last week’s strong showing this evening when they play host to Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The Golden Lions enter this mid-week bout at 2-1, having defeated Grambling and Alabama State and lost to Alcorn State in the Andre Dawson Classic on opening weekend. Both their midweek and weekend games last week were canceled due to rain so UAPB will no doubt be well rested. Last season the Lions went 15-31. This will be the first meeting between the Yellow Jackets and the Golden Lions. As the college Baseball season begins, prospect hounds across the MLB begin watching with an eye on players with the tools to develop into the next big leaguer. Our friends over at Talking Chop, SB Nation’s Atlanta Braves site, put out their first weekly college prospect tracker on Monday. This edition of the tracker included two members of the hometown Georgia Tech Baseball team: catcher Joey Bart and OF Chase Murray. Bart was featured as a prospect on the rise and somebody that the Braves could potentially target with the 8th overall pick while Murray’s hot start put him on the list of players to keep an eye on. Both players will certainly be fun to watch this season. Monday was a bit of a slow news day for Georgia Tech-related things, so let’s take a look ahead at next week’s ACC Tournament. Mayor Withdraws Proposed Tax On Baseball Tickets
Source: connecticut.cbslocal.com --- Tuesday, February 27, 2018
HARTFORD, Conn. (WTIC and AP) – Hartford’s mayor has withdrawn his proposal to tax tickets to the city’s minor league Baseball team. The Hartford Courant reports Democratic Mayor Luke Bronin had proposed a 5 percent tax on tickets to Yard Goats home games in an attempt to recoup funds from a 10 percent admissions tax that lawmakers voted to redirect to the state in October. The lawmakers’ decision means the city is expected to lose out on $290,000 annually. Bronin’s tax would have brought in about $145,000 a year. Yard Goats owner Josh Solomon argued the mayor’s proposal violated the city’s lease agreement with the team. Bronin said Monday the city’s top attorney has reviewed the lease and agreed with the team’s owner. Copyright 2018 The Associated Press. All rights reserved. Does Major League Baseball Still Have a Drug Problem?
Source: www.realclearlife.com --- Tuesday, February 27, 2018
The “steroid era” in Baseball may not be over. “They cheated. Steroid users don’t belong here,” Major League Baseball Hall of Famer Joe Morgan wrote in an open letter late last year to the Baseball Writers Association of America, whose members vote on which ballplayers are to be enshrined in Cooperstown. Morgan — the quintessential “ back in my day ” crank — received some pushback over his letter, specifically regarding his moralizing over performance-enhancing drug (PED) use during the so-called “steroid era.” Critics have noted that Morgan’s black-and-white moralism makes no mention of the many unsavory characters forever designated as Hall of Famers, to say nothing of the long-standing use of foreign substances in the game which unquestionably contributed to statistical anomalies , especially in Morgan’s day. Amphetamines — known as “greenies” — were an indelible ingredient in the Baseball diet for decades until they were banned in 2006; overtly racist owners and commissioners (such as Tom Yawkey and Kenesaw Mountain Landis) who helped keep Baseball segregated are honored in Cooperstown with nary an asterisk on their plaques; Bud Selig is in the Hall of Fame despite having illegally colluded against the players as an owner and presiding over the “steroid era” as MLB commissioner; even Gaylord Perry is in the Hall despite writing a book — Me and the Spitter: An Autobiographical Confession — whose very subject is how cheating h ...

Tucker Judkins | Daily Trojan Going into the series, the Trojans were 3-1 while the Wildcats were 3-0 after their emphatic sweep over Norfolk State in their opening series. Prior to the weekend, this series appeared to be a dog fight, but it proved to be otherwise as the Trojans won all three games with relative ease. In game one, the Wildcats took an early 2-run lead in the second inning. However, it did not last long; the Trojans soon followed by scoring 2 runs in the third inning, and then a resounding 10 runs in the fourth inning to all but seal the game. The Trojans let the Wildcats beat themselves in that game, as Villanova walked them 15 times. Specifically, in the fourth inning when the Trojans scored 10 runs, USC was gifted 11 free bases. They were walked 10 times and redshirt sophomore catcher Kaleb Murphy was hit by a pitch. The Trojans were able to put up 10 runs on two hits, with all of their runs scored with two outs in the fourth inning. “The guys made it so they just couldn’t get out of the inning, and I think being able to sustain the inning was huge for us,” head coach Dan Hubbs sai ...

Some citizens, council members wary over Madison baseball stadium
Source: whnt.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
MADISON, Ala. - Monday, the Madison City Council took another series of steps forward for the Baseball stadium project at Town Madison as negotiation continues between the city and its partners. "We're continuing to move forward in a positive manner in a timeline we've laid out," said Tommy Overcash, Madison City Council President. The moves the council made push the project forward, but don't signify any done deal just yet. The council approved warrant validation for the multi-use venue financing and authorized the mayor to enter into a property donation agreement with the developer. They tabled a funding agreement with the Town Madison Cooperative District because attorneys say it isn't ready yet, The council did push forward authorization for the mayor to enter into a development agreement with BallCorps, LLC. But that series of votes brought out disagreement at the dais. Some council members questioned whether votes were being taken too soon. "I do support Baseball. I want it to be here. I'm ok with the financing. The numbers do work from what I've seen," said Teddy Powell, a council member. "But we need some help from other partners in that, and until that commitment is made I'm not willing to go forward with that. There's three entities in that, and until everything is laid out and we have all the information, I've always said if I don't have all the information my vote is 'no.'" Powell voted against two of the measures on ...

The Minnesota Twins announced that they will soon begin selling official Prince-branded merchandise. According to the Star Tribune , fans will be able to purchase Prince shirts, hats, and baseballs as early as April 5 when the Twins go up in a game against the Seattle Mariners. As of now, the Prince-branded items will be exclusively sold at the home ballpark Target Field. The team will continue the Prince celebrations on June 8th with their second annual Prince night; the first 10,000 fans to arrive at the stadium receive a commemorative inflatable guitar shaped to look like Prince’s iconic symbol. “Along with our fans, we look forward to celebrating the legacy of a man who brought an international spotlight to our great city,” said Minnesota Twins CEO Dave St. Peter. The hologram turned out to be a rumor and Timberlake instead performed a piano version of “I Would Die 4 U” while Prince’s image was projected behind him. When you see me make plays on the football field, a lot of that's a direct correlation to Baseball." Briar Cliff Baseball wins over No. 24 Central Methodist
Source: kticradio.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
The Briar Cliff Baseball team picked up an 18-9 victory over No. 24 Central Methodist on Monday in Fayette, Missouri. The Chargers improved to 3-4 overall on the season after going 2-1 in the three-game set with the Eagles, while Central Methodist dropped to 7-4 on the year. The Chargers had plenty of fireworks in the game, highlighted by three innings with at least five runs scored. The Cliff came out of the gate firing on all cylinders, scoring five runs in the top of the first inning and never looking back. Tyler Vanderham did the majority of the damage with one swing of the bat with a grand slam over the left field fence on the first pitch of his at bat. Nick Robinson also drew a bases-loaded walk to score Nick Robinson prior to the grand slam. The Chargers offense exploded again in the third inning with seven runs and another grand slam to go up 12-1. This time the long ball came off the bat of Sawyer Olson. Michael Anthony also had a two-run double in the inning. Robinson would bolster that lead in the fifth inning with a single to right to score Brogan Secrist and make the advantage 13-1. The Eagles scored three runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to make the score 13-4 before the Chargers tacked on five more runs in the top of the ninth inning. The big hit of the ninth inning was a two-run single to deep center field that scored Avery Foltz and Robinson. Central Methodist then attempted to keep the rally going in the ...

30 Players: AL East Brimming With Breakout Potential
Source: miami.cbslocal.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
CBS Local Sports, in our 30 Players 30 Days spring training feature, profiles one young player from each Major League Baseball team leading up to opening day This MLB offseason was one of the oddest in recent memory. An unprecedented number of talented players remained on the free-agent market well into February, with many still yet to find a team. While much of this winter was quiet, the division that arguably made the most noise was the American League East. The New York Yankees made one of the first big splashes, acquiring reigning National League MVP Giancarlo Stanton from the Miami Marlins. Since then, the Yankees have made a number of additional moves, the Boston Red Sox signed one of the best hitters on the market in JD Martinez, and the Tampa Bay Rays have unleashed a flurry of transactions in recent weeks, unloading a number of players in a bit of a roster overhaul. To go along with all of that movement, each team boasts a number of talented young players worth keeping a close eye on in 2018. Here’s a look at one from each team who can have an impact this season. Rafael Devers #11 of the Boston Red Sox. Credit: Elsa/Getty Images Rafael Devers, Third Baseman, Boston Red Sox The Red Sox were expecting a big rookie season from No. 1 prospect Andrew Benintendi last year, and he delivered. But the No. 2 prospect, Devers, wasn’t initially in the plans for last season. At just 20 years old, Devers had never played above Class ...

Detroit Tigers organization discussion
Source: www.minorleagueball.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
Letâs talk about Baseball in the Motor City I am now working on the San Francisco Giants Top 20 prospects list for 2018. The next team in the queue is the Detroit Tigers , to be followed by the Philadelphia Phillies , the Toronto Blue Jays , and finally the St. Louis Cardinals to finish the process. Use this thread to discuss the Tigers organization and farm system. Some possible points for discussion include, but are by no means limited to: ****The Tigers finished 64-98 in 2017, fifth place in the American League Central Division. What do you believe will happen in 2018? How quickly can this team return to .500 respectability? ****Have we seen the best from outfielder Mikie Mahtook , or was 2017 his peak season? **** Jeimer Candelario was quite solid after coming over from the Chicago Cubs , hitting .283/.359/.425 in 27 games, 94 at-bats. What kind of slash line do you expect from a full season? Heâs only 24; what will he be doing three years from now? ****Assuming that Michael Fulmerâs elbow is OK, what do you expect from him this year? ****Are you happy with the condition of the farm system? If not, what would you do to improve it if you were the decision-maker? ****As always, feel free to discuss sleeper prospects or anything else Tigers-oriented. ...

WNCC baseball drops doubleheader to Barton
Source: kneb.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
The Western Nebraska Community College Baseball team received plenty of hits, but couldn’t cross home plate in dropping a doubleheader to Barton Community College on Sunday in Great Bend, Kansas. WNCC outhit Barton 5-4 in the first game, but fell 4-0 to the Cougars from Kansas. The second game was much the same with both teams pounding out six hits as Barton notched the 5-0 win. WNCC and Barton will be back in action Monday for another doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m. in Kansas. The opener was actually a good ball game with Barton scratching across four runs on just three hits. Barton plated one in the second, two in the fourth, and a single run in the sixth for their four runs. Barton’s big hitter was Kaden Flower, who had a triple, home run, two runs scored, and a RBI. WNCC’s five hits came from five different players. Mitch Lightbody had the only extra base hit with a double. WNCC pitchers Alex Oehme and Nate Kolb gave up just four hits while striking out three and walking none. Oehme was saddled with the loss in going five innings. The second game was just as evenly matched with both teams netting six hits. The difference in the game was WNCC committed four errors and surrendered four early runs. Barton scored twice in the first and second inning. After the second inning, the contest was evenly played in the nine-inning contest. The only run after that was a Barton run in the seventh inning. WNCC was led at the plate by Bre ...

The Royals will have a ton of draft capital
Source: www.royalsreview.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
The picks. There are so many. For the casual Baseball fan, a rebuild by one’s favorite team can be a very dark, long, and boring time. As the offseason has trenched on, many Royals fans have come to realize that this is likely what they’ll be partaking in over the course of the next few seasons. A dark, long, and boring stretch of seasons, something that they are far too familiar with. This is one of the perks of being a fain of a small-market Baseball team, as building consistency in contention with the current state of Baseball economics is something that almost never comes. So yes. Rebuilds can be tough. But with the current state of this Royals organization (lack of talent on the major league team, unlikely contention, and having one of the worst, if not the worst farm system in Baseball), there is no question that this is the right direction. You can have your own opinions on whether they should or shouldn’t the talent that is left on the roster (I’m part of the latter), but that’s not what I’m particularly going to focus. With how the rules of balance and compensation work in Baseball, the Royals have positioned themselves fairly well for a nice start to this rebuild. Their position in the 2018 MLB Draft is a terrific one and it was only enhanced with departure of Eric Hosmer. All you have to do is look at some of my tweets that followed the news to get a feel of how excited I am. The Royals now have four of the top 50 dra ...

FSU Baseball’s ranking in the major polls
Source: www.tomahawknation.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
The Seminoles remain undefeated but will they be able to move up from the fifth spot. It was an up and down week for the Seminoles. The ‘Noles defeated a solid South Florida Bulls team on Tuesday but there was still a dark cloud of uncertainty overhead as they were waiting for test result on arguably their best and most valuable player in Tyler Holton. Those results came in on when Florida State announced that preseason All-American, and Golden Spikes Award nominee will undergo surgery on Thursday morning to repair a torn UCL . With a change in rotation and a stable of young talented arms, the Florida State pitching staff was solid this past weekend against Troy. The staff allowed nine earned runs over the three-game set while striking out 31 however the 16 walks allowed and 3 hit batters will need to improve as the season progresses. The offense has room to improve as well, the 7 plus runs per game is impressive given the .259 batting average and the anemic power displayed so far as FSU hitters only have 16 extra base hits. They have managed to maintain a strong plate discipline as batters have not struck out more than they have walked in any game and are second in the nation in base on balls. Florida State is ranked top five in all six major polls. The ‘Noles could jump ahead of Arkansas who lost two of three games in a tournament this weekend but every other team in front of them won their weekend series. We will keep you upd ...

Royals Rumblings - News for February 26, 2018
Source: www.royalsreview.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
Hooray for Baseball games! Royals Rumblings - News for February 26, 2018 Hunter Dozier is still getting used to first base. Dozier was so uncertain how camp would go, he didn’t have time to customize a first-base glove. Printed carefully in Sharpie along the thumb where stitching would usually feature are the words “All For Him” in Dozier’s handwriting. A personalized glove is on the way. So, too, should be more spring starts like the one Saturday. “I’m getting there,” Dozier said. “I’m gonna need a lot more games but I feel good so far.” New pitcher Burch Smith has impressed Royals coaches early in camp. “A young guy, first time in camp, it tends to be a little nerve-wracking,” Yost said. “First time you’re throwing BP and you’ve got the manager and coaches standing behind. Your natural tendency is try to be impressive. Here we go, you drill somebody. ”I’ve always been attuned to the next pitch. Does it send you off the edge and give you even more anxiety? Every time he’s come close to somebody, the next pitch has been a strike. And that’s a good sign.” New Royals outfielder Michael Saunders is ready to put last year behind him. “No excuses about last year,” he said. “Tough year. But I feel like you learn more from failure than success. A lot of people want to forget about failure, but I use it to drive me to get better.” Does Saunders feel like he has something to prove? ”It’s about opportunity,” Saunders said. My goal is to b ...

A-Rod's return to the Yankees is a sign that, yes, Hal Steinbrenner IS becoming his dad. And the lords of baseball out to be worried.
Source: johnsterling.blogspot.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
Yesterday, the Yankees announced that ex-team pariah Alex Rodriguez will return to Tampa this spring as a special guest instructor/greeter/concierge/hanger-on/tag-along/sidekick/Valet De Chambre - a good will ambassador from the gluten-free celebrity world of Lamborghinis and self-commissioned centaur-portraits. As a form of collateral damage, Jennifer Lopez - the Beyonce of the 1990s - likely will turn up in the nearby vicinity, unleashing floodgates of fame upon the newly anointed, click-generating gods of New York, Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge. The two Yankees should look closely at A-Rod, J-Lo, their entourages and the assembled paparazzi they attract, because their lives as athletes are about to seriously change. Celebrity in New York City is like nothing else in this world. Stanton and Judge will enter the 2018 season as the reincarnation of Mantle and Maris, and their every move will be debated on blogs and newspaper pages that have nothing to do with box scores. If they hit well, they will ascend to a pantheon of single-name fame - LeBron, Michael, Mickey - that few athletes ever attain. If they hit poorly, they will be mocked to the point of physical harassment. It will take a toll. The craziness could include other rising Yankees, from Gary Sanchez to Luis Severino, but the twin towers are surely going to attract their share of attention. Who better than A-Rod to explain the new rules about pissing in back alleys ...

Pembroke receives Little League charter PEMBROKE — The Pembroke Department of Parks and Recreation received its charter last week to start a Little League Baseball program this spring for kids from 4- to 12-years-old. This change takes the department’s youth Baseball league out from the Dixie Youth program and now into a program that allows more autonomy. This also makes Pembroke the only parks and recreation department in Robeson County that has a Little League charter. While Baseball in Pembroke has moved away from Dixie Youth, there is no plan for softball to make the move as well. *** Library closes for renovations ST. PAULS — St. Pauls Public Library is now officially closed for renovation — but have no fear, the library will reopen with a fresh look and space to serve the community better. NC State Baseball - Opponent Preview: Air Force

Off to an even-more-unimpressive-than-it-already-appears 1-5 start, the name of the game for the opposing teams this year has simply been “Don’t beat yourself”. I’d love to write more, but this Air Force offense has been just bad. In six games, the team has struck out 67 times while only walking 18, and has managed a meager eight extra-base hits to go along with their .232 team batting average. They will attempt to push the envelope with aggressive base running when they do manage to get someone on, but that has been few and far between. Pitching has not saved the anemic offense, either. The staff has a combined 6.22 ERA, issuing 36 BBs in 55.0 IP, with opponents hitting a robust .322 against them with 25 extra-base hits. ...

MondoLinks: Sho-ing Off
Source: www.halosheaven.com --- Monday, February 26, 2018
31 days to Opening Day... What a sweet opening weekend to the Cactus League. Live Baseball with lots of up and a few downs, with special appearances by Shohei Ohtani and Garrett Richards. More names will start appearing this week. It feel great. if I had a lawn, I’d go out and mow it just to imagine I was in Tempe and lie would be perfect. Immerse yourself in these Get-Up-To-Speed-Spring-Training-Links: A Little Bit of Angels News It was Shohei Ohtani Weekend, and his first turn on the mound was a tad more than I expected for a guy who was coming off an injury, hadn’t pitched in a while, was working with a new battery-mate - one who uses a foreign language - for the first time, facing brand-new batters (with little scouting history), he’s younger than all but 2 guys we saw in uniform LAST year (who are all a year older), and him being in camp less than 2 weeks. Still, he showed great range of speed and a wicked curveball. And the world dissected the hell off it all . It’s all over the place .........If anything, worry about what Brewers batters had to say ............ We may see Shohei DH any day now . But along the way, the Angels are “using objective metrics” to track his conditioning . They won’t say what those are. But the’re objective.......... Arte should charge an admission fee for the Ohtani press . That way he could keep the an tickets for St down a little bit............ We have been seeing some preview work of our pit ...

Audit raises eyebrows on northern New Mexico agency spending
Source: krqe.com --- Sunday, February 25, 2018
SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) — A New Mexico state representative candidate is facing questions for her role at using public money for questionable expenses including alcohol, Baseball tickets and upscale dinners. The Santa Fe New Mexican reports an audit recently found that Andrea Romero, executive director of the Regional Coalition of LANL Communities, spent money on $1,850 dinner in Washington, D.C., $307 bill for a dozen Major League Baseball tickets and other gatherings where alcohol was purchased. The Regional Coalition of LANL Communities is an agency made of nine northern New Mexico cities, counties and pueblos surrounding the Department of Energy’s Los Alamos National Laboratory. Romero says the questions around her spending are politically motivated. A group tied to Rep. Carl Trujillo, whom Romero is challenging, filed open records request on the agency’s spending. ___ Information from: The Santa Fe New Mexican, http://ift.tt/1jEPBCK ...
