Has Gamescom 2020 been Canceled?

Due to the current global pandemic that is COVID-19 , many events throughout the word have been either canceled or postponed. For the gaming industry both GDC and E3 were were canceled, but many more were looking to Köln for answers. E3 has waned in relevance over the years, and GDC is not really a public event. GamesCom in Köln is however still a very popular and relevant event for Gamers, Developers, Publisher, and Media. As such GamesCom 2020 was one of the most anticipated events of the year. During 2019 the event hosted 373,000 visitors in the German city for an entire week. GamesCom is the world’s largest event for computer and video games and Europe’s largest business platform for the games industry. Hundreds of thousands of visitors from more than a hundred countries celebrate the latest games live at the event in Köln each year. Months had passed with the event holders standing firm about the event still being scheduled for the end of August 2020, but that has changed today. On March 31st the event hosts announced that GamesCom 2020 will take place online. The regular format will still be in mid May 2020, and they’ve ensured reimbursement for both visitors and exhibitors. So what does this mean? GamesCom 2020 will definitely take place at least in a digital format from 25 to 29 August. They say it will not be postponed. The same goes for the devcom developer conference (22 to 24 August), which starts off GamesCom week. ...
