Minecraft RTX vs Minecraft: come see how much ray tracing really matters

Source: www.techradar.com --- Thursday, April 16, 2020
Minecraft RTX was first revealed way back at GamesCom 2019 , where Nvidia was showing off to the world just how advanced ray tracing has become. However, it's been nearly a year since it was revealed, and now that Nvidia Turing is getting close to its second birthday, it's kind of the perfect time for Minecraft RTX to enter its open beta. We've been playing the beta for a couple days now and based on our first impressions, we can easily say that it, alongside Quake II RTX, makes for a stunning example of how much of a difference ray tracing can make.  And, sure, it can be argued that ray tracing in a game as visually basic as Minecraft is a waste of effort, but it's that basic nature that really makes the difference in lighting pop. Ray tracing, in effect, makes Minecraft look like an entirely different game, and we've got the screenshots to prove it.  Here's a nice little teaser Minecraft RTX comparison image. We included a ton more near the bottom of the page.  When can I play Minecraft RTX? First things first, if you're looking to get in on the Minecraft RTX action yourself, you're in luck. The Minecraft RTX beta begins today , and anyone can sign up for it – but it's a bit of a process.  Quick note: if you plan to do any of this, be sure to back up your worlds by going to the following folder and copying any files you need to keep.  %LOCALAPPDATA%\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\co m.mojang\min ...
