One morning we woke to the news that a cross had been burned on the lawn of the Charles Drew House, home to a number of African-American students. Classes stopped, a teach-in started, students listened to perspectives they might not have heard before, and Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall came to speak in a packed, hushed gymnasium. Together, we learned.
