The regular season is still a month away but the Lady Griz Basketball team and the entire Big Sky Conference was dealt some devastating news Wednesday that Kayleigh Valley is out for the season. Grizzly Athletics announced Wednesday morning that Valley will miss the entire season after suffering a torn ACL this week. The injury happened during practice on Monday and an MRI on Tuesday confirmed the tear. The silver lining for Valley and Lady Griz fans is that she did not redshirt her first year in the program and she will have a fifth season of eligibility available in 2017-18. Valley would have very been likely been named preseason MVP for the Big Sky leading up to the season's start. The senior out of Spokane scored a program-record 678 points last season as the forward was named first team all-Big Sky. Valley averaged 35.4 minutes of action per contest as a junior, third most in the conference. The loss of Valley will especially hurt Montana this season as the program is extremely light on experience making their transition of Shannon Schweyen taking over as head coach. Senior Alycia Sims and junior Mekayla Isaak are the only upperclassmen left on the roster and they are also the only two players to have starting experience for the Lady Griz. Last season as a junior, Valley averaged a Big Sky-best 21.9 points per game. Her 50% field goal percentage ranked second in the conference while her 84% conversion rate on free throws was ...
