NFL Player Gives Shotguns to Teammates, Anti-Gun Group Panics, Sends Gun Locks

Quarterback Carson Wentz was so thrilled to be a member of the Philadelphia Eagles offensive line that he bought all of his linemen long guns for Christmas , each weapon lovingly engraved with the man’s team number on the handle. Wentz hails from North Dakota, where he spent his childhood hunting with his family — and he knows a good gun when he sees one. That’s why he bought his team-mates the Beretta Silver Pigeon , a top-of-the-line hunting shotgun that retails for around $2,000 and looks like it belongs in a golden age cowboy flick. Sensing the need to ruin the party (Wentz’s teammates were thrilled with the gift), Pennsylvania anti-gun group, CeaseFirePA immediately issued a panicked statement , questioning the Eagles’ ability to wield hunting weapons. “Our staff’s immediate reaction to the news about Wentz’s gifts to his teammates was to ensure that the gifts were used safely and responsibly,” wrote CeaseFirePA Executive Director Shira Goodman. Of course, they aren’t wrong to be concerned. Back in October, Eagles linebacker Nigel Brandham ran into trouble when he tried to take a loaded gun through a security checkpoint at Miami International Airport. And in November, the Eagles lost a player after he was arrested for unlawful possession of a firearm (along with hollow-point bullets and a baggie of marijuana).
