The most underused part of your phone is staring right at you: your lock-screen wallpaper. No apps I use do anything with this space. The defaults provided by Apple are purely decorative: colors, patterns, planets. It’s no surprise that we mostly use the wallpaper to remind us of things we care about— scenery, children, family, friends. But this is too limited… The way we use our lock-screen wallpaper assumes it’s like a desktop/laptop’s wallpaper but it’s not. The mobile phone lock-screen isn’t something that just hangs out in the background behind all your other apps, awaiting the infrequent bout of tidying. Your phone’s lock-screen is something you stare at hundreds of times a day — and yet, it’s not really used at all. Since it’s static it just fades into the background — it’s what we stare at while we unlock our phones… Over the past month I’ve started to actually use my lock screen wallpaper and I love it. I use it to study languages (that’s my hobby). Having the visual reminder every time I pick up my phone has made learning new phrases much easier. It acts as my reminder to do what I want to do (learn) instead of wasting time checking for new mail or checking the news for the hundredth time. It has changed how I use my phone, and made my time more efficient.
